That release came out in 2010 man. What were you waiting for?

If it's OOP it will probably come back and be repackaged at some point (I doubt a remaster or any new extras, but who knows maybe we'll get lucky). There is a new Kong movie coming out in a few months that Warner is doing, so good chance it being OOP has to do with that. In fact, that is probably the most likely reason.

I bought a used copy of the DigiBook release you are talking about a couple of weeks ago at a local store here. I think it was $12 or $13. I was not going to buy it until I realized it was OOP, then I went for it. It was just one I waited to buy too long.

If you want one, it looks like you can buy new/used copies on eBay for $20 or less.

That's another good point. Amazon is usually a TERRIBLE place to determine the prices/values of OOP titles. For whatever reason there is often a huge disconnect between Amazon prices and ebay prices, even though you'd think they'd be relatively the same with 3rd party sellers. It's hard to imagine any transaction taking places via Amazon 3rd party sellers when their prices are so out of whack like that.

It's a terrible place to get a sense of the true price it actually sells for in the wild, but seeing those prices is usually a good way to spot an OOP title.

There's almost certain to be a repackaging of at least this, and probably SON (also OOP), for the new Kong movie. That they haven't announced it yet just suggests that it won't have anything new on it, unlike the Peter Jackson one.

ALL the Warner digibooks are OOP I believe. Some of them linger on at normal prices because they are slow sellers, but they are all done I bet. King Kong will surely eventually get a normal case edition, probably timed to the new movie in the Summer.

so it seems like a lot of these paramount titles that are carried by warner brothers are OOP now? do i have that right?

somewhat related to the amazon cananda 3 for x glitch during the holidays. for example titles like sabrina, marathon man, the man who shot liberty valance...etc?

This gets into the technical definition of OOP though. They likely printed a ton of copies of those movies while the deal was active. So while they are technically "out of print" Amazon and others should have tons of stock. However now that word is spreading they might be out of print people are buying them up to resell them, so it's a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Anyway, if there are any Warner releases of Paramount movies you really want and Paramount has not reissued them like with The Warriors then yes, I would buy them ASAP. I got Shaft yesterday.

Said it before, but it bears repeating:
Amazon are what people want/hope to get money-wise.
Ebay auctions are what people will pay!
Ebay buy-it-now are more realistic hopes, but from watching some stuff over the last few months, when an auction comes up for the same disc, it almost always sells for less than the BIN ones.

Just realized that At Long Last Love isn't listed in the first page. I think La La Land has people curious about it, I just watched a disc sell for $91 on ebay!

Ya, I was noticing that as well. None on Amazon either. Wasn't this a title produced by Twilight Time, but released directly by Fox? I remember them saying it would not be limited like other TT titles, but it appears to be the most limited of them all. Can't find a single copy anywhere except one on ebay for $700+, after that other one just sold for $91. No page on foxconnect, either.

I wonder if it may be some rights issue (Cole Porter estate?) that this title was only out for such a short period. And wasn't it an Amazon exclusive, so maybe a wider release will end up happening... Either way, looks like a very limited run were printed. The film itself is terrible; its reputation is deserved and it is not a misunderstood classic. It's as horrendous now as it was then.

The film was only released on Blu as part of a settlement of a lawsuit (or at least the threat of one) with Bogdanovich. What happened was, the theatrical cut failed, but there was a guy working in the archives at (Fox, I guess? whatever studio did the film) who saw the dailies and really liked them and was then disappointed with the release cut. So when the theatrical cut was archived, he recut it with some of the cut scenes put back in. This wound up being the cut that was exhibited and distributed whenever it came up (which was rare). But then, years later, it wound up on Netflix. Bogdanovich got wind of the release, and also realized that he had approval of any cut that they released, so he was able to use their technical violation of his contract to get the chance to recut the film himself and get it released. I would guess they cut a deal with Amazon for exclusivity in order to offset some of the cost, knowing it would never be that big a seller anyway (even Twilight Time numbers would've been tough to hit, I bet). Another hypothetical cost-saving measure might have been that they negotiated the rights for the music for a limited amount of time. I'm sure they did everything they could to keep their expenses down.

I really want to finish my Bogdanovich collection, but I agree with you that the quality of the film makes it nowhere near worth the price its going for.

Very interesting - thanks! Maybe Fox printed up the bare minimum needed to satisfy the lawsuit (or threat) and then that's that! I had my eye on this release when it came out a few years ago because I have a thing for legendary studio bombs, but it went on the back burner so I never bought it. Not kicking myself too much, except for realizing what I could have unloaded it for now.

Yeah, it was expensive enough even then for a blind-buy with a reputation that bad, so I wound up renting the disc from Netflix, and then was glad I hadn't bought it at full price. A few months back, I almost won an auction, and it was in the low $20 range, so I figured that sooner or later I'd be able to get one. I do hope this is somehow tied to people hearing about it with regard to "La La Land" and will die down some in a few months, but there probably aren't *that* many copies in the wild anyway. I've gotten lucky recently, I snagged "JFK" for $10 and "Fresh" and "Ghost of Mars" for low $30s total, but I'm starting to think I'll never find this one for a reasonable price.

Thanks for looking that up for me. I guess I'm picky. I don't mind sets if they are of the same franchise, but 4 different titles I'd probably lose in my collection. I could start a "Multiples" section, or something like that. I'll have to think on this one....lol. Thanks again.

Found this one, Region Free. Any thoughts?

Are the discs in separate cases in the set that was just linked?

Thanks!

One case for all 4 discs. Probably stacked.

I'm not certain this is out of print but it does seem pretty scarce. Amazon stopped selling it December 26, 2016. If it is out of print I hope that means a better version is in the works.

It's lacking the unrated cut and the extras from the dvd so I never bothered buying it. Good riddance if it goes oop. I'll definitely buy a new release if they use the full version shown on the dvd and with all the extras from it.
