I questioned you on the availability of UHD 4K titles being available.

You just fibbed just now, by implying you fill in the gaps with upscaled BD's. Look there are obvious film categories missing from 4K film releases and its very obvious to anyone wanting certain titles or film categories. I think it very nice the studios drop off one or two 4K titles a week if your lucky, but the studios are being very scrooge like with classics.

I don't watch only classic films... Clearly.

Anyways,... I don't think I'll remove the ATV4K from the HT because thinking it over more it's just too useful.

Yesterday my oldest daughter made a video for her mom (She's in the Bahamas) for mothers day and shared it to out photo library and then I showed to her in the HT.

Didn't take long to realize if I removed the ATV4K I would miss it soon enough.

(I don't think I fibbed.... about anything... maybe I did... it was not intentional.)

p.s. I'm also being honest about not wanting that car. .. I mean it would be a nice thing to resell can't deny that and it is pretty though I certainly prefer something like a MOPAR classic muscle car in terms of pretty... Doesn't look like a good day to day driver. I wouldn't want a sports car when I have to ride the brakes of my regular car already because my local speed limits are low.

I scored three 4K discs for $9.99 each via Redbox today:

Joker 4K
Knives Out 4K
Terminator Dark Fate 4K

Used, but still.

Oh, and speaking of Twilight Time. I had a few titles that I wanted but then I checked the Just Watch app and all of the titles were available via streaming and subscription services, so that was a nice money saving option for me. I just snagged one title and that was Talk Radio.

By classic films I wasn't defining the category (sci-fi/adventure/horror) only using that term to relate to earlier films then much recent ones. As they say they just don't make films like they used to, even if from the 60's and 70's.

Yes I find the APTV4K very useful.

Cheers

Some people would say the same thing about my disc library, my 85" TV, the rest of my home theater, and about many other things that I enjoy.

Being practical for many years is what allows me to indulge myself now; life is short and a good measure of fun is my well earned reward. I can't afford that car, but if I could I would at least test drive one. Only then can I really know if I would want to own one.

Watch all three of those back to back; should make for a curious triple feature.

Personally, when it comes time to purchase a movie, I do not care if that movie is available on streaming or not. I care that I actually own what I buy.

I am not trying to save money anymore; I am trying to make damn certain that no one inherits any from me.

I can see it now.

Johnston Mausoleum, Calvary Cemetery, Queens NYC
By far the largest personal/family mausoleum at Calvary, the Johnston Mausoleum is larger than some houses and occupies a commanding presence at the Cemetery. The only larger structure on the grounds is the chapel.

AMC Theatres’ Stock Jumps 42% After Report Amazon Is Exploring Possible Acquisition

Quote:
AMC Entertainment Holdings’ stock jumped 42.4% Monday after reports that e-commerce giant Amazon.com Inc. was considering purchasing the movie theater operator.

According to the Daily Mail, Amazon and its founder Jeff Bezos are “circling” the embattled theater owner and have reportedly held talks about a “potential takeover of AMC by Amazon.” The Daily Mail could not confirm if these discussions are still active or could lead to any deals.

AMC Entertainment Holdings stock was up 42.47% Monday morning, roughly $5.86 per share — more than double the company’s record low close on April 13, which totaled $2.08 per share.

The past few months have been tumultuous at best for the movie theater operator — last week it announced it would stop showing Universal Pictures films in its theaters after the studio opted to send a few hit titles, including “Trolls World Tour” straight to video on demand.

AMC’s most recent earnings report saw the company miss analyst predictions for both revenue and earnings. The company’s revenue dropped 6.4%, or $50 million, from first quarter of last year. Its net income was less than half the previous fiscal year, totaling $69 million.

AMC also said it saw domestic ad sales fall 11% during its first quarter as its theaters nationwide closed to combat COVID-19.

AMC’s national network subsidiaries include BBC America, IFC, SundanceTV, WE tv and AMC Studios, each of which reported losing revenue last quarter. It also owns owns the Carmike and AMC theater chains in the United States and also operates the Odeon Cinemas franchise in the United Kindgom. If Amazon were to take a stake in AMC, it would open venues globally its Amazon Studios production arm.

AMC is backed by majority investor Dailan Wanda Group, which bought an interest for roughly $421 million in September 2018 according to funding tracker PitchBook Data Inc.

AMC and Dailan Wanda did not immediately respond to TheWrap’s request for comment about a potential sale.

That looks like bad news for all involved.

Guess it's easier for me to imagine Amazon wants to buy them out of the market than it is for me to think Amazon want to save AMC.

Imagine if Fandango bought Vudu.

I'd imagine buying them up to shut them down could end up being a lot more expensive than the purchase price with things like long term rental contracts on venues that aren't easy to repurpose.

I suspect that its potentially a pre-emptive to get ownership of distribution networks, if Amazon get into the blockbuster market they might be fearful Disney will have the ability to shut out their titles. I mean streaming is clearly heading towards a war between the big boys so that feeding into cinema distribution doesn't seem so unlikely.

So long as we seem to be off topic.

I have finally decided to go all Digital with my classic car collection.

What really did it for me was the convenience and the lower cost. I can access them anywhere and love just being able to point and click on them directly.

With Amazon looking to purchase AMC we are headed for a New Distribution Model. Here is an Article from Sound & Vision talking about the Rise in Home Theater:

https://www.soundandvision.com/conte...e-home-theater

I told you guys that First Run Movies would be coming to Home Theaters the same time as Theatrical Releases for a price. If you really think about it, some Home Theaters can come real close to a Cinema. The "New Normal" will change the Theatrical Experience!

I feel like I'm ahead of the game having a dedicated home theater. I'm so lucky.

On the other hand... I think I started social distancing at least 20 years too soon.

Ifs buts and maybes. Anyone of us could have wrote that article. This is not going to be the normal way when this is done. Film needs the safety net of theatrical.

That article is talking about people who won't go to the movies for 2 years.
Based on what ? I don't believe for a second theaters will be closed for 2 years.

He reckons companies will be fine with people still working from home after that time and those folks will be too lazy to get dressed for the cinema because they have been in their PJs all day.

What a load of bollocks.
