I would rather smash my macbook over my head than talk to 20 People while watching a film.

For his constant claims that digital is the future for film lovers that still want quality. It clearly isn’t. Streaming services are trying to shave off bit rates not improve quality.

It’s the future for those that watch on a supermarket bought tv hanging in the wall in their home or a cheap laptop maybe. It has NO place in a dedicated HT set up.

But what does any of that have to do with Scener? Why would an advocate of streaming have to 'make excuses' for Scener?

You're comparing the odds of your collection being burned or stolen versus Apple disappearing. Nothing lasts forever.

I don't have an issue with it, for me there are 4 people that have let me down and it is "no you can't borrow it" while everyone else is "OK".?
This is the same argument as 1.

If Vudu were to close how many would lose their collection, a lot of people and many on this forum.?
I don't understand your point. I've no interest in Vudu, they are don't exist where I am.

Again, I'm not sure of the point your trying to make here. I've never heard of cinemanow, I was only commenting on iTunes.

There are a number of companies here over 100 years old that offer the same services. I would still put money on Apple outlasting each one of them.

I have searched and I'm satisfied enough that's it's a rare occurrence. As I said before, in all the years I've used iTunes I've not had an issue. If it does happen I'm sure I'll be able to cope.

By the way, as a long time reader of this thread, any comments I make are not intended to antagonise. I appreciate some people here have strong feelings about digital content and I respect that everyone has their own reasons for their view point.

I do not care if other people choose to yak during the movies that they watch together, either in person or with social media.

The reason why I do not care is simple: it has NO impact on how I watch movies.

All I can say is that this particular disc advocate does not find anything about your comments to be antagonizing.

Because this is the direction Digital is taking us. Interactive, social media infused crap. It was only a matter of time. The industry can’t wait to wed film and social media.

I watched a few movies digitally through iTunes and VUDU last night on my Roku Ultra. They look okay for the most part sitting ~10 ft away from my Panasonic 1080p 42" plasma. But if I paused the movie and got closer to the TV, I could see compression artifacts. Comparing to the Blu-ray where there are no compression artifacts. Streaming is okay for me if I want to watch something one time or a handful of times. When it comes to quality, the disc is better. I might build a collection digitally if I had an apartment or limited space. But what worries me is the longevity of such a system. What happens when some other provider buys it and decides to make you re-buy everything on their service? Regarding discs, I have had plenty of DVDs that became unreadable over the years. What happens when your disc collection gets damaged will you buy everything again? Every time I have decided to start building a digital collection, I end up getting OCD about the quality and buying the disc off Amazon anyway. I've also had a few movies I bought in VUDU that don't port over into other services so my collection is spread out across a couple platforms.

Having at ATV4K is Fun and I got hooked on the idea this tiny box did it all. I loved looking at what the $4.99 4K of the day was on iTunes. I just audited my iTunes and added only the 4K titles I don't have otherwise in 4K to my collection here. iTunes (210) is close to my UHD BD (219) in collection.

It's still great and I still recommend it. I still have reservations about moving it out of the home theater as it's just very useful.

I decided I should compare a favorite movie of mine on disc just to really see the difference. It helped my Walmart had the UHD for $14.99 and I loved the movie so much I enjoyed buying it again.

When I compared the two there was no desire to ever watch my iTunes copy again. If the high quality anything was available why would you want the other one. Well, on a commuter train the iTunes copy will win I guess.

I bought Dunkirk UHD BD (used for $7) and it came with the code un-used (WTH?) and I did redeem it. However, I watched it from the UHD disc and was moved by the audio.... I don't ever want to watch my online copy. I wouldn't advise the second rate presentation of a great movie to anyone.

In terms of "what ifs" I'm putting as many eggs as I can in the UHD basket and keeping my Blu Rays. I feel exactly like the insert says, UHD BD completes my theater. I buy the UHD and redeem the codes. Guess I'll know which one seems to last longer in time.

JAWS upgraded to 4K in my iTunes !

(Happy to have it! Watched 2 minutes and actually it looked a bit rough ... decided I'll wait to watch this in 2 weeks on disc before making a judgement about PQ but I'm glad my online version got the upgrade.)

In my over 30 years of collecting disc based physical media, from laserdiscs to today's 4K discs, I have had 0.46% fail in all of that time across five disc formats. Of those that did fail, most were replaced free of charge by simply writing to the studio or by contacting the retailer that sold them.

No one is taking you anywhere that you don't want to go. You do not have to use "social media infused crap." You, like me, like everyone, can watch movies however they choose. You always fear that our choices are being eliminated when in fact they are only increasing.

This second screen and browsing while watching movie Habit was started by Pioneer back in 2007 CES. It was only a prototype but it started there.

Oh, about 2 weeks ago I had a Saw series marathon but alas Saw 2/3/4 stopped working. I emailed the studio and the replacement are on its way. I had to pay shipping ($10 for 3 movies) but at least I got my movies back!

It’s a filthy habit like smoking! There is no way people are taking stuff in while browsing.

I just checked my Saw blu-rays and at least two have some obvious bronzing.

However, the whole 7 film set is on sale for $9.99 at Amazon and I do not own the seventh entry. Includes digital codes for all of them, too. In this case, buying the whole set anew is a better deal than paying Lionsgate $10 to ship replacements.

Everything has a way of working out.
