It could just be a difference of setup/settings, but JP is murky as hell on my TV. But I'm sure that part of that perception is from two decades of a master that has a cool contrast to it as opposed to the warmer tones of the new transfer.

Watching now and great pq but that DTS x is out of this world. The sick dinosaur scene when thunder strikes, the T-Rex rain scene foot down and exploder sliding down the tree rocked the room. Great use of Dolby Atmos surround speakers.

that was also the case for 'Jurassic World' where the backgrounds were filmed in 5perf/70mm as well.

Is the DTS-X only on the 4K and not the BD?

There's no bigger JP fan in the world than me (the original changed my life when I was 7 years old and it's the reason I'm a film critic) but I think I'm going to stick with my iTunes 4K copies for now. Will probably wait for the inevitable 6-film set in 2021. :/

Just did some comparisons of the 4k vs 1080p Blu Ray.
I've never seen the 1080p BD only seen it on TV and streaming. The 4k BD is a MAJOR upgrade in terms of color saturation and vibrant colors when needed. The blacks are definitely blacker and the dynamic range is way above the BD. The BD looks very washed out in comparison. The color saturation /hdr brings a new 3 dimensional look to the film. I will say that at times the BD has a little better texture but it's a fair trade off IMO the 4k BD version is the way to go of youre a fan. (I will agree with others that it is darker compared to the BD, but that's usually what happens with HDR) Just a quick comparison to illustrate the vast difference in color/saturation. Not only the vehicles but the building in the back has great detail/dimensionality. BD: ![]() 4k BD: ![]() Last edited by ray0414; 05-23-2018 at 03:07 AM. |

The regular edition is already a problem from the get-go. Most of my discs have light hair scratches due to the cardboard sleeve and this is only removing it for the first time. I cant imagine dealing with this every single time you remove it and put it back in these sleeves. Definitely returning it and keeping the Steel.

Searched here to find some thoughts on the set and was not disappointed -
https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...5#post15075985 https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...4#post15079534 https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...2#post15080982 https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...2#post15082042 Dynomite reviews Geoffy. I really only want JP1 and JW and will wait for those to be released individually. Based off your thoughts I'll be getting JW instantly, but will wait for JP1 to hit the $10-15 range. |

Paused World cuz the game got good, but so far it looks great. Really can't find anything to complain about other than the CG looks a bit worse here and there. Detail doesn't see much of an increase, grain is still evident without calling attention to itself. The real star here is the colors; they're much bolder. It's obviously noticeable in the greens of the island, but take a look at Pratt-Lord's intro scene in the paddock; the blue in the sky is impossible not to notice. I can see now that the SDR is a little bit warm, while the HDR grade neutralizes things (and looks better as a result). Contrast and black levels look great. It's really a fantastic transfer from what I've seen so far (Indominus is about to kill the Jurassic SWAT team), but the Blu-ray was already SO good (IMHO one of the format's best) that the upgrade here is ultimately somewhat minimal. Oh well, I'm still very happy with it.

You'd be surprised, coming from some studios. Thankfully Universal was always the best when it came to new releases. Shame it didn't carry over to their catalog...

So sorry to bog this thread with this question, but doing a thread search didn't pull up anything...
The Blu-rays in this set are identical to the old counterparts, yes? Because I'm not transitioning to UHD anytime soon, so I figured I'd get the old Digibook set if these are just the same transfers. Thanks, all! ![]() |

As for the set itself, my BB steels are perfect save for the 4K case not sealing shut (seen that others are dealing with this too). Not a huge deal since it's just going in the slip anyway. |
