I prefer the Scream franchise over Halloween, quite in fact, Halloween H20 is my favorite Halloween movie... wank wank. But Michael Meyers is undoubtedly the God of slashers. Many Italian giallos had similar tropes and even better kills and suspenseful scenes, but Michael is the first iconic villain of Horror.

Scream has the best final girl in my opinion.

Sidney is the best, for sure! Nothing against Laurie or the others.

Agree, this is why I think the new movie did Sydney bad. I get that they have to pass the torch but this was not the way. Especially not with
[Show spoiler]Sam's idiotic backstory and daddy issues that have turned Billy Loomis, an iconic and sinister villain, in a prophetic and protective father figure....oh please!

But Jamie Lee Curtis is a stellar actress and was able to improve on her work as Laurie with the sequels. The "LET IT BURN!!!" line in Halloween Kills was Oscar worthy imho. Can't wait to see the final showdown in Halloween Ends, it will probably be her final Halloween. I wonder if Neve Campbell will embrace Sydney for such a long time, she is sooo talented and could make the character grow so much.

This I actually agree with. The worst part about this movie.

At first I was initially a little disappointed that they didn’t give Sid more to do in this movie, but then when I thought about it, the fact that they gave Dewey a more important story arc than Sid leads me to believe they have plans for her in future sequels if Neve is willing to return (which she recently said she would be). There might be more story ideas for Sidney Prescott still which is why they didn’t give her a stronger story in this one beyond just showing up.

As much as I agree that they need to pass the torch to a new generation, it somehow just won’t feel like a Scream movie without Sidney Prescott so I hope they find a way to work her into the sequels in some capacity.

I thought of that too but I do not think the writers are that smart. They could have the next movie focus on Gale maybe working on a tv special about survivors instead of fixating on the killers as she said at the end of Scream 2022. Like it could be set in New York for a change and be a sort of Scream 3 with the survivors working on this TV documentary as they are killed off by a new Ghostface that forces Gale to accept the fact she will have a career only if she talks and writes about killer stars because nobody cares about the victims (which will be proven wrong by the movie itself as Scream has always been a franchise of strong survivors with loser and pathetic killers that always die). It could be very meta in a modern and realistic way and take on TV and media obsession for pain and trauma instead of dwelling again on meta commentary on contemporary horror movies...been there done that. Next.

And then for the sixth sequel we can have Sidney back in the lead, I really don't like the idea of
[Show spoiler]Billy's bastard daughter replacing Sidney as the lead, it's insulting to her memory and her trauma. But I wouldn't be surprised if Tara will kill Sam in the next movie, as a matter of fact I expected a post credit scene with Sam going berserk trying to kill Tara in the ambulance.

Clearly we need more Kevin Williamson's input from here on, I'm ok with having different screenwriters I don't think that it's taboo but these are his characters, he knows best what to do with them. On the other hand external circumstances like producers changing his plans or leaks forced Williamson to improve on his own ideas so I'm all for a team effort in pursuit of quality scripts.

I actually kinda like that idea for 6. I've been trying to think what message they'd tackle in the next one, and Gale's line at the end is a good jumping-off point. Society loves to dwell on the identity of killers, and to a lesser extent the survivors, but so often the identities and stories of the victims fall by the wayside. Having a Ghostface that was a relative of one of the past victims could be a cool twist. Sort of like a reverse Mrs. Loomis- instead of seeing her son as a victim, this person's family member really was a victim, and their life was ruined by it. I dunno, maybe that's lame, but I think it would be a cool twist. Make them the anti-Sidney, in a way.

Absolutely, that would be clever and fun, definitely uncharted territory at least and not stupid teens talking about horror movies...seriously this was what Scary Movie was making fun of 20 years ago only 3-4 years after the first two Screams and the wave of copycats that came after, can't believe there are writers stupid enough to think this meta-shit is still hip. Scream 3 and 4 at least brought the meta element of the franchise to new heights and implemented it in different ways.

Gale could become a prime suspect during the shoot of this TV special while her guests are being killed, they could play with a public trial like as an homage to Serial Mom with Lillard, can't get more meta than that! They also should dare more with the editing and narrative and have it slightly less clear chronologically speaking to add a layer of complexity.

I'm all for Gale taking the lead next time in solving a big murder mystery and prooving Ghostface and society that we should focus on survivors, their strength and their healing and stop idolizing serial killers and give these tragic stories and the follow up trials so much attention. But please no more family drama, I don't want Scream to turn into a corny soap-opera. Scream 3 put an end to it giving Sid a good closure about her mom's past. Jill being a made up cousin last minute was already a bit far fetched but still served the plot well. But popping out sons and daughters and random relatives from now on seems the wrong way to go. If Scream wants to get rid of the legacy cast and start anew, it needs to get away from Woodsboro and get new energy elsewhere.

NO ! The whole reason about the
[Show spoiler]final girl
goes out the window then. Its literally been the whole premise since the first one with
[Show spoiler]Randy's monologue
. So to do that should be the ultimate taboo. The franchise would lose its whole appeal from where it began.

Nah, Sidney's whole thing is that she's a survivor. Killing her off would legit ruin the franchise.

Plus it'd be nice for at least one scream queen to not have to film a death scene for their iconic character.

It’s going to hold the franchise back in the long term though. If it’s going to be a new gen, then MAKE it a new gen. Or is Sid just going to ride into town like a sheriff every time Ghostface shows up?

It would probably have to be a sacrificial death though, to keep it in spirit with the series.

They could simply leave her be and stop making the new scream movies about her, woodsboro and Billy Loomis. The TV series proved it can be done.

Her surviving every time is making the series a joke. Why bother having any more movies if Sid is superhuman and can't ever be harmed?

But then again, if making the series more stupid worked for part 5, I shudder to think how damn dumb the killer's motives will be in a sixth film.

Maybe since so many people ragged on Melissa's acting, they can do that for the Sam actress in STAB 9, so the killers can be going around killing anyone talking smack so they don't have to recast Sam in STAB 10?

She’s been harmed many times.

But she’s barely in this movie and Ghostface wasn’t even after her this go-around, so it’s not exactly like she spent the entire movie being chased. Hell, even in Scream 3, Ghostface only interacts with her at the end of the film and she’s wearing a bulletproof vest.

That said, they wrapped up her storyline quite nicely and I don’t think there’s a need for her in the future films.

I hope she can still come back. Its not Scream without her i think. She started everything and would be weird to not see her in a Scream movie again.
