Looking over the listing, it looks like ALL of the 1 hour episodes are split into 2 for their syndicated versions. This is actually WORSE than the original boxed sets, if that was possible. Good going, Universal.

All seasons are up on the UK iTunes store, first episode of season 5 is 4:3, the rest 16:9. Season 6 episode 10 is in 4:3, 7 & 8 consistently 16:9 and only 8 is in HD. Overall it's just one big inconsistent mess. I was really hoping to finally have the entire series in HD, 16:9 or 4:3, in some way but it looks like they went with the cheapest option. This makes me doubt we'll ever see HD masters for the entire series.

It's just nonsense, especially because all episodes from season 3 and ahead are 16:9 on the German complete boxset. The job was already done, they just had to use it...

They had to of edited the show on Beta tape and not standard, that would explain the seasons that are in 16:9 only being in SD minus season 8 which was fully edited and aired in HD.

I could be completely wrong but I don't think you can edit in 16x9, can you??

AFAIK, isn't it season 4 onward that is in 16x9? I don't believe 3 is in widescreen anywhere.

It was so on the separate boxsets but on the complete one they released last year season 3 is also 16:9.

Exactly, on that set only seasons one and two are 4:3, it is the best W&G boxset out there today, and for what we can see it will still be.

I'm not 100% sure, from everything I've researched and seen in behind the scenes videos for shows filmed around that time there are many different ways for them to put a show together. Many different options for film, tape, editing options etc. I'm just making an assumption from what I've seen so far

But the stand-alone season 3 doesn't have them in 16x9?

Nope, the conversion was made way after they released season 3, that's why it can only be found on the complete series set

Season 3 was released this year.

There is one good thing about Will & Grace being on iTunes, the seasons are climbing up the Top 200 Seasons list. Season 1 is currently at 61.

WOW you're right! They re-released season 3 on march this year with 16:9 format, had no idea, the first edition was from 2007. So we could always get the German season 3 at least, cool.

Maybe if they see that the show is still popular, they'll do an actual HD remaster for the series? That's why I see it climbing the iTunes chart as a good thing.

Is season 8 also 5.1 sound like the german edition?
