Default Fantastic Four: Reborn (Casting Rumors: Bruce Willis or Kiefer Sutherland as Thing?)

Fantastic Four will be rebooted with a darker tone and new actors/actresses attached to the film.

Quote:
As Jim Hill Media reports, according to information garnered at the Licensing International Expo 2009, both 20th Century Fox's reboot of The Fantastic Four and Jerry Bruckheimer's production of The Lone Ranger will be reaching theaters in the summer of 2011.

Licensing-2009-Fantastic-Fo Of The Fantastic Four, the site notes, "it will reportedly feature an all-new cast as well as a far darker take on this classic Marvel comic."

Anyone else excited for this? I know I am after the first two films. Hopefully this one will be done right.

I am always ready for a new comic book movie, in this case I actualy liked the first two movies, sure they were not Shakespeare material but they were good F4 movies.

I agree with you. They were enjoyable, but in some instances, I thought there could have been more action and better use of their powers (i.e. Reed's use during dancing. Really!?) Not sure how the darker tone will work, but I think the dark tone for Doctor Doom might be perfect instead of what he was in the other two films. Plus, I hope the story is better than the other two.

I am just not liking this new Hollywood trend of making comic book movies darker suddendly. TDK make's a billion dollars and now every producers think that's what they need to do in order to cash in. Not every comic book movie will work in a darker mode, it work's well for Batman because of what he is but that style just won't work for F4 or Superman. Look at Iron Man, nothing dark like TDK yet it's great and it work because they followed the character of the comic book. They should not try to be creative with comic book movies, the characters are there, just write a good story and pick the right people to make it happen. I am not too familiar with the F4 comic book, I know them more from the 3 animated series that were done. Are they darker in the comics?

Ah yes, the "we'll make it darker" statement from the studio heads who have no idea what the comics are about.

Not every comic book character has a dark overtone - not every comic book character is Batman! Sheesh!

no, but batman aka dark knight was and therefore all superhero movies now apparently have to become darker to try and follow in its success

i actually thought the first 2 FF movies were perfectly campy...i didnt think they were great movies, but imo they fit the style of cartoon and comics...they're not ever 10 years old and they're already being rebooted. hollywood is so f'kin sad...

FF, was never a dark comic, they did have some dark story line but never as dark as some of the other comics out there.
It seem that since the Dark Knight, Hollywood wants all there comic book base movies to be "dark".

I agree The F4 is not dark material. I think making it that way would be a bust. As for Superman, you can make what is around him dark but make him the shinning light.

I agreee with you. The first two movies were good, and I enjoyed them. Maybe they will make improvements for the reboot.

I thought MC was GREAT as "The Thing", with some of the others "so-so", but I commend the choice for new actors overall.

I'm against the "darker tone" though as the FF was never (really) a "dark" comic. The problem with the first two films (besides Alba) was the writing, not the "tone" of the film.

Well said, I'd be hesitant on a darker tone to this series. I enjoyed the first 2 films for what they were, the tone of the film was fine to me.

Totally agree with you on both accounts. MC was an awesome Thing. Tim Story and the writing was the two problems in the first two films. The dark tone is not for a FF movie IMO. Just get a good script with plenty of action and some actors and actresses who can at least half-way act, unlike Jessica Alba.

I've always liked Jessica Alba, from her days on "Flipper" to more present roles. I just thought she was a terrible choice for Susan/Sue, and I think it showed.

Personally, I wish Rachel McAdams (another name mentioned prior to Alba) would have made a great Susan Storm...

I don't mind a reboot. I liked Rise of the Silver Surfer though. It will be interesting to see who they cast this time.

Who do you guys think should be cast to play Human Torch?

I think their biggest problem is that they were trying to make it too family oriented in a way and aimed the film at really young children. Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer was given a PG rating. It was good and I have nothing against it for the fact that it seems like these comic book adaptions were aimed at making money off toys.
