Haven't been in here in ages. Last summer my wife and mother to my two children left me and almost immediately started dating her best friend from college (and one of my best friends for the past decade-plus). I quit forum life, I quit watching my BDs because everything had baggage attached. But things are finally looking up...
Ernest & EricJ: glad to see you're still here ![]() I'd popped back in hoping to find that the Fantasia releases were imminent. D'oh! May? That's what happens when one falls out of the loop. Well, I can wait. I left the vast majority of my Disney & Pixar library with the kids at their mother's; I have a lot of rebuilding to do and it will take time and (sadly) money. I'm gratified to learn of the upgrade2Blu program--that'll make things a bit easier. Does anyone know if Disney's disc replacement program applies to BDs? The ex bought a second WALL*E after the kids accomplished the seemingly impossible task of defeating the scratch-resistant coating & I'm now in possession of an unplayable copy. Love me some Disney thread derailment. I hadn't heard about the park plans re: Toontown. At least the porting of DCA's Little Mermaid ride makes me happy. I took my first-ever trip to Anaheim last Labor Day to run in the DL half marathon (part of my post-personal-disaster rebuilding program), but I was flying solo and in no mood to explore the parks in that frame of mind: I missed out on Mermaid as well as my chances to revisit Mr. Toad, the original Tiki Room show, and other DL-exlcusive attractions...but I've got two days' unused admission for the inevitable return trip. (I also ran the WDW marathon last weekend and the kids dig the Disney bling so much I'm set on collecting a full set of Disney Endurance series medals for them, which plan includes finishing the DL Half and the WDW Full in the same calendar year for the Coast-to-Coast medal.) Anyway, on-topic: "Fantasia World" is a lame title, but stupid band names gain cachet if the music's good enough. They could put out the Fantasias, Destino, and all related content under the title "Pretty Pictures Set to Pretty Music" and I'd be happy to get it. Well. Mostly. Till May I can be satisfied with Dumbo, the Toy Stories, Princess & the Frog... |

Unfortunately, Dumbo has been postponed from it's original Febraury release date. No new date has been set yet, though it probably won't be that long of a bump. I would estimate April or May, since March is already packed to the brim wih Ponyo, Toy Story 1 & 2 and Princess & the Frog

![]() I'd forgotten about Ponyo. Looks to be a fun-filled year for me from WDHE, however long the waits. |

I didn't say that the UK release was being postponed. The US release on February 2nd has been. Keep in mind though that it may impact the UK release as well, though I doubt it. I think Dumbo will arrive in other countries first like Monsters Inc did and then it will arrive in the US a little later. It may be a good title to import.

The lack of information coming out of Disney has to be calculated -- they are creating buzz and pre-release board traffic by remaining silent. It is astonishing that there isn't a set release date for so many titles that we all know are coming, or the details of their contents. I remember when the original Fantasia box set was announced -- what was it - five months ahead of the release? It was an agonizing wait. Now we're agonizing for a press release for something that has to be coming out in the next 12-15 weeks. If this is Disney's new business model for home video, I don't care for it. At all.

Generally speaking, the authoring-to-release window for BD is much more compressed than for DVD, and reasons for delays are more varied, especially with the more elaborately designed discs that Disney does for these Diamond Editions. I wouldn't be surprised if they hit a few hiccups along the way on previous titles, so now they hold off on the press releases a little longer. After all, they just had the press releases for Princess and the Frog and Toy Story 1 & 2 and those arrive in 7-8 weeks.

Typically Disney has announced titles almost 1 year in advance, then released cover art about 6 months ahead of time, then released final details about 6-8 weeks before the release. However, this year, they seem to be doing everything within 5-10 weeks of the release. I can understanding that they want to give accurate information the first time around. They have said that Fantasia and 2000 will be released this year, as would Beauty and the Beast. They still will be, but it just won't be until they are ready. Dumbo is really the only title that isn't being delivered as promised. Booklets in Snow White clearly said February, but it isn't coming in February, and the studio hasn't said a word about it other than Spring 2010 in trailers. I would be worried about Dumbo being delayed, Fantasia I'm fine with.
I do wonder if Disney isn't about to announce some new line of Blu-rays... like the Gold Collection for DVD where they announced a ton of titles for one year. Maybe they might do the same for Blu-ray? Another line similar to the The Walt Disney Classic/Masterpiece/Gold Collection/Platinum/Diamond edition lines? |

No one really knows. It seems likely that a box set will exist because of the mention of "Fantasia World", but seperate releases may also happen
