I agree with Russ agreeing with HTG's agreeance with ManUtd's agreement with Russ's suggestion that I need a more agreeable power source, but unfortunately my wallet doesn't agree right now.

When your wallet can stand it. You can do some searching for a previously owned unit........Amps don't have moving parts so they're pretty safe in the secondary market

Don't you agree ?

I'm not sure how familiar some of you guys are with my setup, but all of my audio equipment was originally in my living room with my 42" Panny plasma(which is still in there). When I got my projector, I moved everything to a dedicated room, and I plan to eventually migrate all of my equipment back to the living room, as I upgrade the HT room, so eventually I'll have my same old livingroom setup going again. I have already moved my front and center Polks back in there. I probably won't be able to go quite as top-end as some of you guys have gone, but I have been thinking and looking for upgrades.

As far as me blowing my tweeter, I had the train crash from Super 8 on, which in my opinion is one of the most insane things on blu-ray, and I had it turned up way more than I normally ever would, because I was too buzzed, and showing it off to my friend.

Are there any receivers with adequate power capabilties, or is a seperate power amp(s) pretty much a necessity for a great system?

Thanks guys. I've been building some speaker stands for my fronts, that's why I've been in and out of here so much today. Have fun spinning Russ!

Interesting.

My wife never lets me play it loud enough, so the fear of distortion or clipping never has come up.

I have, may have seen my questions lately, been thinking of an external amp. So much room for my system to improve, and an amp is pretty close to the top of the list.

Great place - I bought my Onkyo TX-SR706 (7.1) there, under $400, couldn't even Find the "alleged" scuff or nick on it. Works great, came packed like it was new from the store, all the paperwork, cables, etc.

I see they have some very nice deals (under $700) on 7.2 Onkyo AVR's.

Onkyo TX-NR1007 THX Ultra2 Plus 9.2 Receiver - $699

In the last couple of months, I've bought a projector, new center and front speakers, along with all the little things to set up my dedicated HT room. Unfortunately, I have to take a little breather before buying more fun toys.

Yeah, I'm over there drooling over those receivers quite a bit.

I've been building some stands for my fronts today, and they're just about done. Just need another coat or two of paint. Also I just checked, and my replacement center channel just arrived in town about five minutes ago. I should have it in about 10 ~14 hours!

Yes. I've been taking pictures. I need to buy some more flat black spray paint tomorrow. I should have them up late afternoon/early evening.

Have a good night Aero!

After researching your system..... I have to amend my prior suggestion...... Due to the fact that your present Sony STR DH800 does not have pre-amp outs, You wont be able to connect a dedicated power amp to your present setup . But Fear Not, all is not lost . I would now suggest that you (when wallet allows ) upgrade your AVR to a unit that has pre/outs. Being that AVR's with that feature are a little more sophisticated, that may be all you need.

Now as far as suggestions go for AVR's , I'd ask other members here. For I'm not up on the latest bells and whistles those units tend to offer (I'm not really into it). But I do know that since most manufacturers of AVRs like to fudge their numbers (wattage and distortion) you'll need to check the ratings carefully

If you need more assistance, feel free to ask
