Book 6 is supposed to come out late this year/early next year, with book 7 following one year after that.
The plan for the show (last I heard): Season 4 - Book 3 & 4 Season 5 - Book 4 & 5 Season 6 - Book 6 Season 7 - Book 6 & 7 Season 8 - Book 7 Season 6 would start in 2016, so if book 6 comes out this year or early next year, there shouldn't be a problem. |

It was said that the show might even end before the final book is released. Since GRRM is tied with the show, the show runners already know how the story will end. They will just finish up the show like how GRRM wants it and let him fill in the rest with the book.

Martin himself has said multiple times that he doesn't give dates and that the books will be "done when they are done". Actually, in the last interview I read he was even saying that his plan was for seven books, but that he isn't ruling out an eighth book and that the story will go where it wants to go. ![]() ![]() Personally, I think the shows will overtake the novels. Martin, in his last interview aslo doesn't seem to be dealing with the logistics of television very well. He said that if the show does overtake the books, then he would have to have some interesting discussions with the producers - perhaps doing a prequel show to wait. Of course, the producers were saying television doesn't really work like that. You can't just stop a show for years. Actors contracts would have to be renogotiatied (that alone is a logistical nightmare) - sets, etc, would have to be boarded up which costs money. So, basically, if Martin can't finish his books in a timely manner, he may doom GoT from ever being a complete television series. ![]() |

This part of the article struck me..."they could go on hiatus for a year or two (which would risk losing viewers and a large chunk of the cast)."
MAD MEN and THE SOPRANOS both had a 1 year hiatus due to salary disputes, but it didn't affect the show in any way. It's just that fans had to wait in agony for an extra year. So, I'm not sure why a hiatus for GOT would be such a big problem. |

imo it already has, the books were big but, not this big, and people are already proclaiming GoThrones as the best TV show ever
I think that it is a little premature but, if the rest of the series is just as good, then you can make a case for it. |

HBO knew that this could potentially be an issue when they picked up this series. They will have to live with the possible consequences now. The only issue I have with them possibly taking a year off from production, is that the younger actors/actresses will not look the part anymore. I read somewhere the other day that Martin would not be pleased if they moved ahead to film the sixth or seventh season (presumably book 6) before he finished writing the book. That makes sense considering this is his vision after all. I know that he has told the creators of the show how he potentially sees the series ending, but he has not told them everything to my knowledge.
This could really end up being a big problem. As a huge fan of the show, I hope that this works itself out one way or another. Last edited by iSeeinBlu; 06-11-2013 at 08:04 PM. |
