Default (BOOK SPOILERS) Game of Thrones Series Discussion for Book Readers

Game of Thrones
A Television Series Discussion Thread for Readers of
A Song of Ice and Fire

Some posters from the other 'Game of Thrones' discussion thread have dismissed the idea of having a separate thread for the book readers. But I've decided to give it a go, because it's simply not fair to show-only fans to have to sift through the spoilers and determine what's safe to click on vs. what's not safe (spoiling book material).

This thread will be for those of us who have read George R.R. Martin's 'A Song of Ice and Fire' and wish to discuss the television series through the lens of what we know from Martin's novels, and to compare and contrast the differences and similarities. Here we may discuss the intricacies of Martin's work being translated without fear of spoiling the Unsullied (show-only viewers). Book spoilers may be posted freely, though I would ask you to still black out any show-specific spoilers (stuff from upcoming episodes that differs from the book, which some of us may not want to know about prior to seeing the episode in question.) Once the episode airs, I think we can consider such things fair game as well.

Please take advantage of this thread, so as to allow the Unsullied to have as untainted a viewing experience as possible.

Let the spoilage begin...

Okay, then, I'll start.

Any body else bouncing back and forth between excitement and terror over witnessing the Red Wedding tonight? Not only am I going to be a total mess tonight, but my family will likely be throwing things at me for not warning them ahead of time (I've yet to be forgiven for Ned's beheading in 'Baelor'. )

I'm interested in seeing how Talisa plays into things. In ASOS, Jeyne wasn't at the wedding. So if Talisa's there, are we thinking she's a goner? Or, as has been speculated, might she be revealed as a Lannister spy? (I'm not sure how I feel about that one, but it's been discussed).

Actually I think this is a better concept than just a "book" thread. A separate thread for book readers to talk about the show. No spoiler tags I'll just be careful since I haven't read all five books

I'm not sure if I'm ready for tonight!
[Show spoiler]

Although I am interested in seeing all of the tv show viewers reactions

well hopefully next week we will have it a little better i "hope" we will get a little justice because i am looking forward to the resurrection of Catelyn so she can hang people that wronged her family and us .

I hope it happens next week it will fit with the timeline of the events in the book that its supposed to happen 3 days after her being killed.

Here I'm thinking "Why the spoiler tag? That's what the thread is all about!" and then I opened it up and almost spit out my drink.

I always forget that happened so soon after the RW. In general I forget about time when I'm reading the book. Because I'm reading fast I forget about things that may be happening weeks or months apart.

First of all, this is how this thread makes me feel:

Second, I can't wait to see how they have brought the RW to life. If its as brutal as the book its gonna be oine hell of a scene.

Reading some other forums, people actually think Rob will win Casterly Rock...this is not going to be pretty when they watch tonight's episode.

The reveal of Lady Stoneheart is so freaky in the books. It was one of the things that I wasn't spoiled about in advance when reading (I knew of Ned and Robert's deaths thanks to the back cover of ACOK and also knew something bad was going down at Edmure's wedding). Hopefully they do it justice (I'm sure they will), because it left me incredibly freaked out when I read it.

Also, am I the only one who loves how HBO does their episode promos? Their preview for Baelor barely showed anything of Ned, and the preview for tonight's episode highlights all the other story elements, with barely a trace of the Red Wedding. While other channels (Showtime especially) tend to spoil their episodes, HBO really does a great job at holding back on their big shocks and surprises.

This thread is necessary -- every discussion of the TV series devolves into a meta-discussion comparing things to the books.

I don't mind, I've read the books. But the inherent spoilers have to be murder on someone that wants to be surprised by the show.

Because with Martin, you never know who lives and who dies -- but the discussion of the show by those who've read the books can easily give away who goes on to live, etc.

Yep I love that. I think all there was in the promo was a quick shot of Edmure. For a lot of people it will be a total surprise. Knowing it's the "big epidsode 9" you'd think they'd spoil it, but nope.

Yeah, I was surprised by that. Ahhhh these show-only people have no idea! Gonna be fun! I hope they don't end it ambiguously. I want it clear that Rob and Cat are dead.

I wonder how they'll do the playing of 'The Rains of Castamere'. In the book, it's just the music without the words, and we read the words in Cat's mind as she realizes what song it is. They'll probably have someone singing the lyrics, so that viewers catch on to what's happening.

I don't even want to think about poor Grey Wind...

I thinking, in episode 10, we'll see Thoros perform his ritual, Catelyn eyes snap open...fade to black!!!
The End

That would be

But I was thinking that they could find out about her pregnancy, and keep her as a hostage, because the child would be heir to Winterfell.

In fact she may end up as Ramsay's bride instead of the "fake" Arya, as in ADWD book!!

I have seen a lot of speculation (so take it for what it's worth) and heard rumors, that...maybe I should tag this just in case, since it's the show...
[Show spoiler]not only does she die, she's the first of the 3 to go.

Now that would be something, and would actually make a lot of sense. The Frey's would be stupid to kill her and the Heir to Winterfell. They could marry one of their own to that child and get Winterfell or ransom the child to the Lannister's.

I'd like that best - and it makes sense considering they never introduced Jeyne Poole in the show to take the place of Arya later on. Though I don't think I'd like it if they take the "Lannister spy" route, since that doesn't make much sense to me (she'd have to be one hell of an actress). If she does die, I'll be a bit bummed. I've been enjoying Oona Chaplin in the role.

i hope you are right.

But i read many places online that they hear its Talisa that will become Lady Stoneheart on the show.
I am gonna flip out if its her and not Catelyn

How would it even make sense if its Talisa!
