Hey, you gotta do what you gota do,right?

I'm out of patience in regards to waiting for stuff to hit blu. The format is what.... 15 years old? I think that if it hasn't been released yet I just have to assume that it might not get released on disc.

Maybe it isn’t on DVD or Blu-ray because one of the writers is an animal-hoarding psycho.

Well definitely can't say whether it is or isn't but it's most definitely bizarre that it's not. I'll say that much.

It's an interesting situation to say the least especially seeing as how the film was originally supposed to get a DVD release and a remake back in 2011/2012 but then it all just got mysteriously scrapped. I just read that she landed in some legal troubles for her animal hoarding not too long after. Would be nice if situations like this could legally prevent said filmmakers from profiting on their releases so the fans wouldn't have to pay the consequences. Would also be nice if the facts came out though so some folks wouldn't come to the false conclusions that it's potentially due to PC related issues. Or music rights.

I'm sure this has been said more than once, but the original War Of The Worlds and the original Bad News Bears, were two films I watched dozens of times... on Beta! Man, I miss the old video store days!

Most modern (1970 and up) Paramount titles seem to be available for rental in HD on Amazon Prime (and a lot of times if you have a Prime subscription a lot of Paramount stuff is there to watch as part of the Prime package) which leads me to believe they could put the stuff on disc (or license it out), but they choose not to. Ordinary People is an example of a film you'd think they'd have a Blu-ray for but they don't that you can rent through Prime.

That's not exactly accurate; the accusations of animal hoarding go back to 2005, and the actual legal troubles were in 2014, so I don't think either one would likely be the reason that the 2012 DVD release was cancelled. As for the remake, it was "in development" at Bad Robot in 2010, and there was speculation that they did a casting call for it, but I wouldn't say it ever got to the point where it was "supposed" to happen. These sort of remakes fall apart frequently enough that that aspect doesn't really require further explanation.

In this case, it seems like music rights would be a big hurdle. But I do agree with you, it would be nice if, when they cancelled a release, they said why, rather than not even saying that it's officially cancelled.

Yeah I'm clueless on the matter. That's why I was just speculating. I just found out yesterday for the first time from that post that Kimi Peck was an animal hoarder.

I second B&B, the Brady Bunch movies, Good Burger, and Small Soldiers, and will add on the Rugrats movies (to tie in with the hybrid film), the rest of the Nickelodeon Movies catalog, the two Peanuts films they own, and MouseHunt and Paulie.

It's on Amazon Video with original music though, so it would seem someone has paid the rights but hasn't released a Blu-ray.

Many studios didn't clear the music for future technology (e.g. DVD's, Blu-Ray) for many movies made at the time. But TV and sometimes VHS were cleared, and maybe streaming is considered "TV" still, but disc media not. Looking For Mr. Goodbar is another film that seems trapped in music rights hell since VHS.

Of course, Paramount isn't known to care much about catalog DVD or Blu anyway.

EDIT: In Little Darlings case, Paramount issued it twice on VHS, once with the original music intact, and once with the music replaced. Maybe they didn't know the music wasn't cleared for VHS and got caught, thus reissuing a VHS with the replacement music. Why would they even create a replacement music version if there was never a music rights issue?

Yeah, I'm not *sure* that's the reason, but with that in mind, and looking at the specific songs that they didn't have the rights to put out on VHS, it seems like it would be a big enough hurdle that I don't think it needs more explanation.

Now that I'm looking at it, I can't even find an actual source of Lionsgate saying that it was releasing the DVD, just a few references to Lionsgate having said it without any further source. I'm not saying that they didn't say it somewhere, but they might have mentioned it in passing as something they were working on rather than an official announcement, so it also could've been a situation where they were working on it and then found out they didn't have the full music rights.

I'm hearing buzzings around the web that a Paramount horror film called Let's Scare Jessica to Death is being licensed to Scream Factory, and that an actress from this movie has recorded new interviews. I've never heard of the movie until stumbling across this information, but for the sake of Paramount's catalog, I hope it's true.

Streaming rights and physical media rights are two separate things.

The Tenant is coming to Australia next month. I believe the floodgates have finally opened, considering that title has never been available on the format period.

Pretty pathetic it's that sh!thole of a label Paramount decides to open their doors to. Grabbing any region B releases. DVD will have to suffice for the rest.

I know Shout/Scream makes mistakes, but they're not a "shithole" label at all. Plus I'd rather get the Paramount catalog on Blu-ray than deal with vastly outdated DVDs.
