A low-tech direct from VHS digitized copy

2/ Oh yes! Like a sore thumb! The California material looks like it could've been my brother's 8th grade school project, The Virginia footage looks really good (it visually reminded me of Shock Treatment the sequel to Rocky Horror).

3/ Disjointed! But that might work in its favor as a piece based on music videos from the 80s.

4/ I didn't consider the music rights! Many of the lead actors don't respond to requests and one actor had it turned off after 5 minutes.

My brother just actually got involved in the estate sale scene in California so I've advised him to keep an ear out. He said that most people use a particular site so there may be a record of any sales,
Oh dear! There do seem to be elements of 50s and 80s nostalgia in the clips that would still hold some appeal today ... although in the version you saw it sounds like a fabulous trainwreck.

quoting from that article:

Quote:
As the movie faded into memory to Richmonders, it abruptly popped up in a double-truck ad in the March 8, 1983, issue of Variety magazine, proclaiming “The Cannon Group Presents Rock and Roll Hotel in Wondervision 3-D.” The ad stated there would be two industry screenings at the former Movie Lab on Santa Monica Boulevard in Los Angeles on March 9 and 10 at 3 p.m.

It's true — the movie indeed was completed. Not only that, it played at least once at the Waverley Theater (now the IFC Theater) on Sixth Street in New York City during the weekend of March 11, 1983. “The terms of the tax shelter agreement to the investors included a minimum of one showing,” Rodis says. “In order to get the write-off it had to be released for at least a weekend.”
One has to wonder what became of that print. If there is any way of tracking it down. Clearly that'd be the version to see. Although it can't be a great sign that it was seen as more valuable as a tax write-off than as a potentially viable movie. If the screenings were about fulfilling certain technical stipulations, I wonder did many turn up to see it.

Cannon also released Treasure of the Four Crowns in "Wondervision 3-D". It seems that many of the films in the Cannon Group film library ended up at MGM. Perhaps they retained that print. Although if Richard Sweet assumed control of the film, perhaps not.

Interesting! Didn't connect that with Cannon! I think John Rupkalvis may have more than a trailer...

The film was never completed in 3-D and the Waverly screening never happened.

It’s true.

As I have said multiple times, we’re very busy and there are many vintage 3-D gems coming soon to 3D Blu-ray.

In fact, some announcements are going to really surprise you!

Started but never completed?
Does that mean 3-D footage was shot and might still survive?

So far, the only boutique labels that have shown any interest in releasing silver age 3-D content are Shout Factory, MVD Visual, and Kino Lorber. Shout Factory has released two. MVD has released one. Kino has already released four titles (The Flesh and Blood Show, A*P*E, The Stewardesses, and The Bubble), with Parasite, The Bubble (Roadshow Restoration), and Revenge of the Shogun Women on the way. There are rumors that Vinegar Syndrome is getting involved too. I'm guessing it's a 70's softcore title.

The setbacks with Friday the 13th III, Spacehunter, and Starchaser are regrettable, but when only one third party label appears to be dedicated to releasing these films on 3-D Blu-Ray, this is what happens.

Last edited by revgen; 05-12-2019 at 03:09 PM. Reason: Shout released two titles.

Shout have released two, there's Metalstorm and Amityville 3 for silver age, even if they didn't do much work to fix their issues (a little bit of alignment would have gone a long way to ease my eyestrain). Still very glad to have them though, I enjoy Metalstorm quite a bit.

If it's true that Vinegar Syndrome is getting into the 3D game, that makes me think they'd go for Black Lolita. Blaxploitation films are right up their alley. Or maybe they cracked the nut of Frankenstein's Bloody Terror. I thought I read that Code Red originally had the rights to it but was discouraged from putting it out because they definitely would have released it flat.
