Whatever became of this announced, unnamed 2017 Blu-ray 3D by Exhumed Films?

Great question. I spoke with Harry Guerro of Exhumed at a screening of Horror Noire/Candyman in February but we only talked about Parasite (which he did not know about) I'll see what I can find by asking at Exhumed's Facebook page.

Speaking of Facebook and the Silver Age I came across some potentially exciting news - here's a hint: "I'm Chevy Chase and you're not...Steve Guttenberg"

I can't imagine what film that is.

I wish the two Hong Kong martial arts films Dynasty and Revenge of the Shogun
Women
could be fast-tracked to 3-D blu-ray by whomever controls them.

I think he's hinting at The Man Who Wasn't There. Steve Gutenberg was the lead actor in the film.

Who's putting out The Man Who Wasn't There? Lousy movie but I would still buy a 3D Blu Ray.

It's not verified (hence potentially exciting news), but don't count it out. While we're waiting there's lots of other titles to tide us over. 5 years ago this time I was excited about Dragonfly Squadron and the Bubble...imagine 5 years from now what we'll have!

I went to the 2D screening of this (Rock and Roll Hotel) just now. As it exists, it's more like The Mask or Freddy's Dead in that new 2D footage was shot and most of the 3D footage was junked. The gentleman who found this copy, Dale Brumfield, initially found 16mm strips months after filming ended at the location. So the beginning of the movie is 2D shot in California by the 3rd director, an unnamed person who worked in adult films. Then the middle/end is mostly a mix of 2D/3D from the first 2 directors and what seems like additional footage from the 3rd director. According to Mr, Brumfield, he contacted John Rupalvis who said he might have a trailer to sell him (DB declined). Other than Dan Symmes and Rupkalvis, Chris Condon's name is also in the credits. Wondering if it'spossible Mr. Rupkalvis may have more footage. You can get a good idea of what I saw here with approximately all the memorable 3D shots I remember

Rob, did they find actual 3-D footage or did they recently post-convert some of the flat material?

If so, how much do they have and how did it look?

I had found about 8 minutes of 3-D material on this film 20 years ago. I gave it to Dan Symmes and it went missing after he passed and his ex-wife had a big garage sale giving away his collection and four decades of 3-D research.

Hello, Bob! The actual remaining 3D footage seems to only consist of about 8 minutes (the only really memorable 3D shot that isn't in that Youtube clip was of a person coming forward through a window). The wow Jivaro shot was Dick Shawn thrusting the vibraphone sticks at you. I'm not an expert but I can tell you definitely nothing was converted.

The copy we watched seemed like a 5th generation dub (though it's said to be the only copy existing-found in the set designer's home). I was expecting a 3D version of 1980's Get Crazy! and there seems to be some bright moments (the fogbound hotel lobby, Shawn performing Carl Perkins' Pink Pedal Pushers,).
Basically Rachel Sweet's associates turned the '83 Virginia shot material into more of a vehicle for Sweet. It starts with her narrating about her band
with Judd Nelson and someone else showing them romping on the beach and driving around Hollywood while she sings. Then Colin Quinn is a dj who likes Sweet's band but his station is being taken over by a woman who wants Mantovani and no rock, Then Quinn decides to go to the Rock Hotel. Nothing in 3D till they arrive at the hotel.

I hope i've been helpful enough and that you get to see it. There's a battle of the bands but only Shawn's band's segments seemed 3D (I think they reshot Sweet in 2D in 86 because nothing stuck out during her performance of Heartbeat)

About 24 people in the audience. Rupkalvis was simultaneously working on this and flying to the Jaws 3 set.

I think this was the worst 3D title from the 1980's. Terrible movie with bland 3D - very little depth and only a few pop-outs.

But guess what? A lot of us bought A*P*E and Stewardesses just for the 3D. So, if 3DFA produces a 3D blu of this, I'll actually buy it! And besides, Steve Guttenberg could probably use the residuals.

I bought them also for the excellent 3D. I just remember the 3D was almost 2D for The Man Who Wasn't There when I saw it.

- they were all 'terrible movies', by one person's standard or another, even the ones some of us really enjoy have a poor critical reputation. And by the standards of 1980s 3D, most 3D looks a bit bland in comparison. I'd rather people have the opportunity to see for themselves, as we've all seen how much perception can vary when it comes to 3D. After being hardly seen for 3 decades, most of these films are overdue a reassessment.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts Rob.

1) Is what was shown entirely sourced from VHS? If Dale Brumfield has some 16mm footage, it might potentially be possible to improve the quality for those sections of the film.

2) was there much noticeable difference between the later California footage, and the footage from the original shoot? Lighting difference, film stock difference? Presumably Rachel Sweet looked much the same as 3 years earlier, but sometimes that can make a big difference.

3) would you say this re-edited version is reasonably coherent in telling its story, or does it just play like disjointed sections of footage cut together?

Some of what has been written about this film is quite disparaging, but the youtube footage looks decent enough to me, and the use of 3-D looks like it would be effective. At the very least they have an interesting music video or two in there.

I imagine any restoration that might be possible would be a Frankenstein-esque attempt involving sources of varying quality... but I'd like to see that happen. They might also be limited in what they can do by music rights.

I really hope that Bob Furmanek's reel found its way into responsible hands and that it resurfaces some day. Has anyone attempted to get the word out about the lost Dan Symmes garage sale material? I presume that's where the 'Reflections of Horror' footage that Harry Guerro has came from. Maybe knock on a few doors, put up a few 'lost dog' type flyers around the neighborhood. Probably futile at this stage, but there's always the chance that someone has it without realising the uniqueness of what they have.

[QUOTE=Interdimensional;16314102]]

Hey! You're quite welcome!

1/ Yes entirely sourced from..to quote this article (which I found the link to on the 3d Film Archive site..https://www.styleweekly.com/richmond...nt?oid=1367393)
A low-tech direct from VHS digitized copy

2/ Oh yes! Like a sore thumb! The California material looks like it could've been my brother's 8th grade school project, The Virginia footage looks really good (it visually reminded me of Shock Treatment the sequel to Rocky Horror).

3/ Disjointed! But that might work in its favor as a piece based on music videos from the 80s.

4/ I didn't consider the music rights! Many of the lead actors don't respond to requests and one actor had it turned off after 5 minutes.

My brother just actually got involved in the estate sale scene in California so I've advised him to keep an ear out. He said that most people use a particular site so there may be a record of any sales,
