This looks like hot garbage to me.

Then again, I hate horror films but love superhero films. So, I'll see it but it really does look like bad TV in this first look.

I, for one, am glad the filmmakers are leaning towards the darker vision of the The New Mutants as realized during the Sienkiewicz years. The 17 issues or so of the comic prior to Sienkiewicz's involvement looked like a bland run-of-the-mill superhero team. No thanks, save that for the inevitable Power Pack movie (which might not be so bad if they stick to the sci-fi elements of their origins, but I digress)

If this film does indeed follow the Demon Bear storyline then I hope Warlock is not worked into the story as he wasn't for the comic. He is a freaky enough character to warrant his own horror film.

This looks... intriguing.

Excited to see what comes out of it, seeing how they're taking this in a completely different direction.

NEW MUTANTS DIRECTOR ON WHY HE'S MAKING AN X-MEN HORROR FILM - IGN

Quote:
So what are the main influences on The New Mutants from the comics but also horror in general?

Josh Boone: Our whole pitch for this series was based on Bill Sienkiewicz run with Chris Claremont [The New Mutants vol. 1 #18–31, 35–38], so it's very much when New Mutants became dark and surreal and more horror driven.

We were incredibly inspired by the Demon Bear story which is probably the best, well-known New Mutants story. We also drew on movies like One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Stephen King stuff, and even Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors.
Looks like you caught one of the director's inspiration for this movie.

Honestly everyone should read this article, it has many good knowledgeable details about the film. A few that caught my eye were this being more a performance driven horror film, this is the first of three New Mutant films and each film will be a different style of horror movie, and only 10% CGI used. It's great info.

Typical nonsense rambling. I've never been a fan of the X-Men films produced by Fox. None of the films have been expressly noteworthy and the only reason that they continue to generate money is that movie-goers seem to enjoy being led by the hand by Fox Studios regarding anything that has "X-Men" stamped on it.

Fortunately, I have a brain and the only film that was decent was First Class and the Gifted TV series. Remember, think for yourself.

Word is The New Mutants are going to be a trilogy, with each focusing on a different type of horror inspired from the comics:

Possibilities:

The New Mutants I --- The Demon Bear (psychological)

The New Mutants II --- Warlock, Magus, and the Technarch/Phalanx (alien invasion and assimilation)

The New Mutants III --- Belasco and the demons of Limbo (supernatural)

Considering the more control creators have been given with X-men lately with Deadpool, Logan, and Legion (and those being fantastic too); I'm more willing to be excited for this as it looks like another genre shake up like the other 3 I've mentioned and it sounds like Fox has given the director creative control for this. Plus this is the director's first ever Horror film and i'm always willing to give new blood a chance to impress, and he must be somewhat good at horror as he has 3 Steven King adaptations he is working on.

Can't Demon Bear be considered supernatural as well?

Okay, so you're just being a troll in this thread then?

I guess so. But I have a feeling the demon bear isn't going to be quite what it is in the comics, and maybe it's just an extension of Moonstar's broken psyche.

The trailer did a fine job in getting me interested. There's just nothing that reminds me of X-Men in it. Maybe they will bring that element more forwards the closer we get to the release date, if only to make sure the audience knows is part of the brand somehow.

I think having the word 'mutant' in the title and said in the trailer and the Marvel logo on this connects it enough to X-men for casuals (they know mutants = X-men at the very least).

I wouldn't mind, though.

Very interesting. I know nothing about the comics, so I. Will be going in clueless when watching the movie. I do like they way some of the comic book movies are headed. Getting tired of the same funny kid friendly comic movies that come out 2-3 times a year. Yes the movie looks low budget but that's not always a bad thing.

Trailer looked awesome glad it feels more like horror instead of another typical superhero movie, its now one my most anticipated films next year. Hopefully there isn't any comic relief & it maintains the serious tone of the trailer.

What I don't get is, why doesn't Colossus help his sister from all this? Or is Fox still toying with the idea that the X-Men are no longer around and mutants still face near extinction?
