Yeah, I'd prefer steelbooks for classic movies than current ones

Godzilla and Black Hawk Down would be better examples since they are Sony catalog titles getting steels.

But, his rebuttal was "it's an older catalog film," hence why I chose the particular releases coming from your fine workplace that I did. Black Hawk Down and Godzilla (almost) are at least from within the past 20 years.

I wonder what the thought process is at Sony as to which catalog 4Ks get steels. Seems totally random. There have definitely been some movies around the same age as KK that did: Labyrinth, The Dark Crystal, and Christine, for example.

My thought would be that they're targeting sci-fi/horror/fantasy fans as being the ideal Steelbook consumer. Dramas like THE KARATE KID or even action films like CLIFFHANGER and AIR FORCE ONE apparently don't cut the collectability mustard.

Seems to me they are targeting the age group that likely supports physical media.

The recent Sony steelbooks have had crap art, if its not the theatrical artwork then I'd rather get the regular edition that does have the theatrical poster art

If there was one, they probably would have just reused this:

Steelbooks are definitely a genre-specific thing. Action, Sci-Fi, Horror, Fantasy, and War. I don't think I've ever seen a Comedy or Drama steelbook.

Now I just need them to get their Black Hawk Down pre-order page sorted (it's currently set to 'out of stock').

EDIT: Huzzah! They just sorted it. Pre-ordered both UHDs for just 36 of the Queen's finest pounds.

And listed as a 3-disc edition.

Is it really Sony's Choice ?, Since only Best Buy sells them. Just wondering.
