Wtf is wrong with Warner’s encoding team. This has literally always been a problem with them

Warner have been getting better with their encoding. They're nowhere near as bad as they used to be.

In the case of Batman: The Animated Series, they crammed too many episodes onto each disc.

Beyond seems to fair better though. Not as scrubbed and compressed.

Hopefully Superman is more like the latter.

It’s hard to go off of those numbers when the BTAS set has a full disc devoted to extras and 2 movie discs that were originally configured as individual releases. And do people know if the STAS set will have a dedicated extras disc?

9 discs when you don't factor in the films and the bonus disc.

So that's 3 extra discs for just the episodes compared to Superman.

Superman has 54 episodes, Batman has 85.

All 20-25 mins each and all in 1080p with DTS-HD Master Audio.

Batman has way too many episodes on each disc, when you take those factors into consideration.

The episodes are really bit starved as a result and it shows.

It should have been a 15 or 16 disc set.

I hate to be “that guy,” but since we’re doing math…

Batman: The Animated Series had 109 episodes (85 of the original run on Fox, 24 from The New Batman Adventures on Kids WB).

Which only strengthens your argument… BTAS crammed too many episodes onto each disc. This upcoming STAS seems more reasonable.

D'oh! I forgot about TNBA!

I rest my case.

The announcement finally being made got me excited...then I saw that about the DNR pass and that this wouldn't be a WAC affair...
The BTAS and BB sets could have been perfect and were held back these flaws of DNR and overstuffing discs. Though nothing is as bad as the main WB line handling the catalog Hanna Barbera restorations and totally fubaring the Scooby Doo releases.

I forsee this as likely having the same issues as BTAS and BB. I'll still buy it but hold onto my DVDs for their older presentations like I did the other two series. It's a shame as all of these could be as perfectly done as the hands off approach taken by WAC as with their essential Jonny Quest BD.

I hope and pray for WAC to do the Fleischer Supermans someday. The Warner restoration done for DVD is the best they've ever looked but sadly had some audio errors which means you've got to hang onto older releases as well. They fixed some for the standalone Fleischer Superman DVD set but not all of them. These would be astonishing in HD fully restored with proper audio. Currently I flip between the Warner 2 disc DVD and the Bosko Video Diamond Collection DVD.

Yeah, I think I remember that about the animated series, Superman's more limited powers, which, yes, is a positive for me who finds the character lame partly because of that. Looking forward to it.

It's about time that this was announced, especially after hearing about the HD versions a while ago. With this, at least the "core" DCAU series now all have Blu-ray releases. I'm not sure Static Shock or The Zeta Project ever will - were these even produced in HD? If they weren't, I can't see a rush by Warner to put out upscales of each series.

Not DCAU, but, as has been said before, I hope The Batman follows suit one day. More old-school, and not animated, but Adventures of Superman would be nice to upgrade into one handy Blu-ray set, too.

I hope any eventual HD release of the Fleischer shorts isn't just a port of the SD versions. There are several instances of either problems with the prints Warner used, or needless tinkering with the opening credits on various shorts. Most of the issues can be easily corrected.

The Mild-Mannered Superman does an excellent job of highlighting many of these errors, although there was one difference they didn't quite pick up on for "Showdown", which features the very first instance of the alternate "streak of lightning" opening. For this short only, there is a slight difference on how the lightning itself is animated, plus the timing of successive shots, compared with the standardised version that appears on the remaining shorts. The Mild Mannered Superman noticed the timing being out, but didn't notice that the opening's animation and editing was different for this one short.

If any HD release of these was ever in the offing Warner would be highly recommended to examine all the notes from The Mild Mannered Superman.

It's a minor nitpick but I wish the blu-rays had kept the original opening sequences for TNBA instead of using the original TAS opening.

I don't even remember a different opening for TNBA. Only an opening for Batman/Superman, the combined one. I did find it weird that they used new theme music with episode footage in some of season 2 and then completely went back to the old theme with old footage in TNBA. Also makes it a little harder to get used to the new art style, being reminded always of the old.

Is this real or just a fan montage over the second theme?

Yeah, for TNBA, they did that Batman/Superman crossover opening.

It hasn't been used since the episodes originally aired.

All the re-runs, streams and home video releases use the opening from TAS.

I'm glad that 90s cartoons are getting Blu-Ray releases. I hope Spider-Man The Animated Series gets remastered in HD at some point. The quality is really bad on Disney+.

Pigs will fly in Hell when X-men TAS and Spider-man TAS get remastered lovingly like DCAU shows.

The fact that theyre on D+ with mediocre/bad picture quality is good enough for Disney suits.

you have a better chance of pulling gold out of your backside. Disney has never done a full home video release of Spider-Man TAS you have to get a bootleg or watch it on D+. I mean no DVD no nothing.

We were lucky to get X-men on DVD
