Sounds like they won't rush it so I'd imagine this will be a wait for news etc.... and that the Tinto Brass's workprint would be a jumping off point.

But yeah exciting because Kelly and Alexander who if you listen to the podcast should be given special credit for the project because if it weren't for him all that film stock sitting in a WHSE would have been trashed at this point.

Is the reason why Caligula looks so soft and dark because maybe they aren't original camera negatives?

Not sure... i dont know much about what was used for the current Blus.

I used to own the old Image BLU and sold it off before it ever went OOP.

I was thinking of importing one from UK or France but at this point I will wait see what ends up happening with the current undertaking. I’m not in any mad rush to see it again so I can wait a few years.

I watched the 'pre-release version' and honestly, I prefer the 156 minute theatrical cut. The hardcore inserts kinda add to the WTF-ery which is what makes the film so fascinating.

But stuff like that was pretty true to how the real Caligula was like. Even if someone today did try to do a new movie about Caligula, it would still have a lot of repulsiveness to it.

Here is an episode of a podcast called The Projection Booth where they interview Alexander, and the Penthouse CEO Kelly Holland. Excellent news, and Holland does mention that they are in talks a company to handle a 4k remaster of Tinto's cut with Alexander's help. I hope they give him carte blanche to assemble the cut.

I do not want Arrow to handle it. They've had framing issues, and this is just too important to risk messing up at all. I would like to see Severin get this. Their recent release of American Nightmares/ Combat Shock is spectacular on every level, and shows a love for preserving a director's vision. If not Severin, then Synapse.
Criterion if they don't mess with the color, I suppose.

Incredibly exciting for fans of cinema.

Every label's had issues. I'd argue that Arrow have a better track record than Severin does.
