Good news, hope it works out for Sony.

I'm fine with my SSD drive for now.

Got my code - I have no need for USB hard drive support, but custom wallpapers are awesome!

Scroll back a page or two, I asked the same thing. I think the answer was a month or so.

Only thing I wonder regarding boost mode. Does this mean companies will no longer patch their games for Pro? Are they just going to rely on boost mode for the performance difference between the PS4 Pro and PS4 Amateur?

This is what was always muddy since this began. From what I gather the boost mode is only overclocking so the only thing affected by it would be framerates and loading like the XBOX One S currently does over the OG One. The Pro specific patches I imagine add tweaks to visual settings suck as draw distance, AA and things like that. So to answer your question there's a reason for both as they handle two different aspects to the game so I don't see developers suddenly stopping Pro patches.

As much as I want to have the external HDD support now. I just don't want to be the guinea pig on beta testing when I've read you could potentially run into some system crushing errors.

Unlikely as it may be, I dunno if I wanna take the risks.

Yeah lol no matter for firmware or games, I'd rather try the finalized version after all the major problems are dealt with. I can happily wait for the official release.

So I've decided to look into external HDDs and noticed that there are plenty of reputable products for around the same price that are either "external" or "portable". The portable HDDs are much smaller and sleeker than the external HDDs. But is there a general difference in performance? Should I expect a better performance from an external since it's larger (and thus has more components) than a portable?

I'd say your main concern would be that the portable ones run off the USB for power and the others likely use a power socket as well as connecting via USB.

Power sockets are a premium in my set up, that is to say I have exactly zero of them left now, so I would only be able to run a portable drive.

As long as you are getting USB 3.0 or above you should be grand whatever way you decide to go.

Thanks! The power socket aspect didn't hit me before; that's a good point.
