100s of fairly obscure titles that would not have a hope in hell of getting a release from any other company. A company that's incredibly proud of Britains Film and Television history, that has mostly excellent quality for video and audio across their whole library.

For example, the Jack The Ripper 4K restoration release. It rivals anything Criterion has done for it's PQ/AQ.

I say we swap the slipcover and the Studio Ghibli threads, and replace them with Network and Second Sight stickies.

Or they recognise that Britain has a lot of significant botique retailers, and relax the rules.

Good call on Columbus and Neruda btw.
I know there have been a lot of complaints about The Last Seduction but I still have never seen the film, and this includes both cuts (albeit one on DVD). It's never been this cheap so I decided to take the plunge...still, I hope someone will upgrade it one day (maybe Arrow or Indicator). That said, Dahl's Red Rock West was dropped by Signal One so there doesn't seem to be much of an appetite for his work over here for some reason.

Agreed. I'd also swap at least one of the 'post pictures' threads for Second Run and Third Window (maybe even Vintage Classics). The main reason being we often get people starting new threads on their releases, probably because they don't see these topics stickied at the top of the page.

'Picture of your blu ray collection', 'Ghibli' and 'Slipcovers' should all go, in favour of 'Network', 'Second Sight' and 'Premium Collection' IMO.

Leave Ghibli alone!

Slipcovers can go though.

BigNickUK, have you suggested that we also have a section more in line with the North America bit, with a Studio and Distributors tab along with a Wish List for films from the UK/Europe.

It's always a bit frustrating that we can't get a Wish List thread or every time a post is started it gets moved to the North America bit. At least we should have one for films from the UK/Europe, but it wouldn't hurt if we were allowed to post about titles not yet released in the UK as members could point people in the right direction if they have been released elsewhere.

You never know who's reading, we might give one of our favourite distributors an idea.

Nothing to shabby there.

The UK still needs a Blu-ray release of Funeral in Berlin and Billionaire Dollar Brain (2nd and 3rd palmer movies), I wonder who has the rights?

Didn’t notice it in the blu-ray section, but The Man Who Haunted Himself is only £3.83. Pretty good film (and one of Sir Rog’s finest performances) and PQ is decent too.
Speaking of Sir Rog, The Persuaders is only £23.40. An absolutely top show, thoroughly recommend.

Yes it's peanuts for a damn good movie. You get two Roger's for the price of one.

Funeral in Berlin was for Paramount, so little hope there. Billion Dollar Brain is with MGM and has a sub-standard release through Kino, if you're region free.

I knew about the Kino release but it's a shame Funeral had little chance of a release.

If my memory serves me right there was a Palmer movie planned between Funeral and Brain but it was scrapped?

No, but there was a fourth planned, Horse Under Water, but that was sunk by the poor box-office and terrible reviews of Billion Dollar Brain. Even though Saltzman had left the Bond series by then, For Your Eyes Only has quite a few similarities to the book, which revolves around salvaging secrets from a submarine sunk in Greek waters.

That's me trusting my memory! Brain is still my least favourite but I've mellowed to it with multiple viewings.

Same here. Especially as it's starting to look more and more like a documentary given the last few years political events.

Funeral is available in HD from iTunes and Amazon. No idea what the quality's like. The books are well worth reading for the differences, you get a lot more background about Vulkan in the book and there's a great scene where Hallam attempts to kill the agent (he's only called Harry Palmer in the films) at a bonfire party. Horse Under Water could have been a great film and I'm sure Michael Caine would have enjoyed a holiday in Portugal. I suspect the expense and complexity of the dive scenes and the climax during a storm at sea put paid to it. As the central characters of Twinkle Twinkle Little Spy and Spy Story are unnamed, either or both could be the agent and both would have made fine films.

Spy Story was filmed and (barely) released in 1976 but pretty much vanished ever since. The release was so far under the radar I don't think they even showed it to critics, which, considering Lindsay Shonteff's track record, was probably a good idea.
