I just don't understand, maybe any insider can help out. Seems that a big holdup for Blu-ray is getting profile 1.1 players out there at a good price. Why is there not a stripped down PS3 out as a standalone player? I know it would not be as eloquent a solution as a traditional standalone, but dang it if it would get cheaper profile 1.1 players out there for people on the fence to purchase - and get us these missing Warner titles.

Or is there some surprise around the corner that we're not allowed to "know about" yet?

There is no connection to Universal Studios, if that’s what you’re implying in regards to things in the works, upcoming news or what not………sorry.

It simply was a coincidence of terms. Plus, I generally like to bold the title of any movies or books (if I remember to).

And yes, the studio colleague did in fact tease me about which cut the public would be seeing this Sept.(there has been a bit of a controversy about that….. for those of you unfamiliar with the motion picture) and I have actually received several PM’s inquiring about it, which I am not at liberty to disclose.
Well Shit... LOL thanks for the reply. A guy can dream. Until Penton wakes him up apparently.

I read here on this forum on another thread that benes had started a poll on AVMS somehow regarding the wants and desires of seamless branching , or what not. Most of us here know that AVMS is infested with red ants throughout its infrastructure and superstructure, for that matter. Heck, that isn’t “insider” news to any of you guys, as you’ve been discussing that perpetual injustice amongst yourselves months before I even came on board here, its just gotten progressively worse and more overt.

Anyway, I believe that it is not uncommon for some red ants to invade any poll on AVMS and thus skew or even corrupt it so badly as to make the results meaningless or even erroneous. For instance, I remember listening to a presentation by Jordi Rebas from Micro$oft at an industry conference, I guess back about a year ago, more or less. He presented a slide of an actual poll run on AVMS (of course) in order to validate a point he was making during the speech. The results of the poll appeared a bit skewed to me so when I returned home I logged on AVMS to check out some of the names of the actual voters of said poll. Needless to say, I recognized at least one name who voted that is notorious for his bias mindset and therefore had no legitimate reason for voting to begin with.

So, long story short, I think it would be prudent for benes or one of the mods here (whoever reads this first) to simultaneously run the same poll here on our forum, if only as a *control*. I think all good experiments have controls. Actually, I believe it would be a good idea to run all future polls also here for the same reason.

Can any Insider speak on this from AVMS:

This is Toshiba's pre-emptive strike against a HUGE Blu-Ray announcement coming about a week after Labor Day. I can't give out the details, but I can say it will make this deal look par for the course in HD.
I'm not familiar with this poster and maybe a smiley or two in response to this would just be enough for me to know one way or the other.

That’s not a bad idea, I just don’t know if they can mechanically do that.

Penton Man:

Thanks for your contributions here. As they say in radio, long time listener/first time caller. I found this post by member beatboy77 in another thread:

"Just spoke with my contact at WB and she confirms that "Return to House on Haunted Hill" will show WB's new preference for Blu-ray. Look for this release to favor the Blu-ray version vs. the HD-DVD version.

All of this on the heels of Nickerson's departure from WB. I wonder what's cooking"

With all of your studio connections, can you share any insights as to what significance (or lack thereof) Nickerson's departure may have on WB's stance with respect to its support of BD and HDDVD?
Similarly, do you have any information as to whether the upcoming release of Return to Haunted Hill, for which the BD version appears to be superior, signals or portends any change in WB's support of the two HD formats?

In other words, can you share any information as to whether something may indeed be "cooking" at WB? Any tidbits you can share would be appreciated

Hehe,
Don’t send me over there, from what I hear, the inmates are running the asylum now on their “Insider’s” thread.
And if it wasn’t posted on their Insider’s thread, why even give it a momentary thought to begin with?

I wonder if the BDA ever buys itself a studio like the way Paramount was bought by the HD VD folks…….. if the AVMS Insider’s thread will remain as *open*, or whether it will revert back to the former *guidelines*.

Man, all I can say is that alot of guys over there need to get laid, badly.

I just talked to my distributor of FOX movies in Denmark. She told me that the fox titles that was announced internationally at specific months WON'T be out on those months. Did the announcement only involve specific countries? - and why do you neglect curtain countries ? (I have to do ALL advertisement here myself out of my own pocket. posters, player everything) It's hard to fight for your favorite format overseas if they don't really see Europe etc. as important.

Well I don’t think it’s accurate to say that release “favors the Blu-ray version vs. the HD-DVD version”, I think it would be more accurate to say that the Blu-ray version shows its technological superiority and implementation thereof compared to HD DVD......when the playing field is level.

Hi Penton!

Does this mean that Warner is going to start doing separate Blu-ray encodes to take advantage of the superior specs?

Would be great news if its true!

Insiders,
I know that have been a few threads on this topic but I wanted to know if you had any insight into possible changes. I recently purchased two movies and the plastic stickers on the outside of the cases left sticky residue all over the case. Has the problem been addressed and are the packaging companies looking to possibly eliminating this problem?

Paidgeek,

Can you confirm or Deny that you are or have re-mastered House Of Flying Daggers for a re-release like was done for The Fifth Element?

(There is a rumor going around based on a recent magazine article -September issue of THE PERFECT VISION pg. 76).

Paidgeek already confirmed that Sony switched to only one sticker for newer releases. I don't know about others.

My post above was specifically referring to the technological presence and superiority of seamless branching (see my original post for context) on the Blu-ray version in contrast to, its absence on the HD VD version, or so I was told by a WB studio colleague at the barbecue I attended last Sunday. Because that specific techo attribute is what he personally admired so much about the Blu-ray edition.

The whole conversation was a prologue to him asking me about what cut would be seen by the public in the upcoming theatrical presentation of the motion picture Across the Universe……which I had expected.
