he said "weeks", so it can't be matrix or batman because even it they were announced it wouldn't be released until november or december. it has to be either from hell, troy, or remember the titans. maybe even robocop. i don't like these games.

Too far in the future. That's set for a street date of Oct. 16. I suspect one of the titles in my original list (my pick is Troy) will feature it first.

Ah, another day, another cryptic remark from Penton-Man.

In response to a question about the upcoming movie Across the Universe:

That was a bit of a sticky wicket.
A quite anomalous situation in fact.

So, I’ll have to pass on your request.
Last time I checked, Penton-Man isn't in the habit of using colloquialisms from the Queen's Tongue (British English) - i.e. "sticky wickets", which for those who aren't aware, is a game term from the hallowed British sport known as cricket.

Now, as it happens, the story revolves around a love story set around the music of the 1960s counter-culture in the USA; and also involves an exchange student from England.

From the official Across the Universe site:
Quote:
At once gritty, whimsical and highly theatrical, Revolution Studios' Across the Universe is an original movie musical springing from the imagination of renowned director Julie Taymor (Frida, Titus, and the Broadway smash hit musical "The Lion King") and writers Dick Clement & Ian La Frenais (The Commitments).

A love story set against the backdrop of the 1960s amid the turbulent years of anti-war protest, mind exploration and rock 'n roll, the film moves from the dockyards of Liverpool to the creative psychedelia of Greenwich Village, from the riot-torn streets of Detroit to the killing fields of Vietnam. The star-crossed lovers, Jude (Jim Sturgess) and Lucy (Evan Rachel Wood), along with a small group of friends and musicians, are swept up into the emerging anti-war and counterculture movements, with "Dr. Robert" (Bono) and "Mr. Kite" (Eddie Izzard) as their guides. Tumultuous forces outside their control ultimately tear the young lovers apart, forcing Jude and Lucy – against all odds – to find their own way back to each other.
So... conjecture on what the sneaky Penton-Man reference is?

Looking at the "nick of time" comment I believe that this title is just about to go into production and that Steve Nickerson was blocking the use of proper seamless branching on Blu-ray, and was instituting the use of normal branching with high seek times etc... on Blu-ray because HD DVD can't do SB.

Troy DC will have been pressed and shipped to distributors by this stage so there isn't much chance of SB on this title is Nickerson was the sticking point as he only just stepped down.

I guess we will see in September.

Conjecture eh?

a·nom·a·lous (-nm-ls)
1. Deviating from the normal or common order, form, or rule.

Hmmm, I would love to see something from "Across the Universe". That would definitely be an anomalous situation.

Just spoke with my contact at WB and she confirms that "Return to House on Haunted Hill" will show WB's new preference for Blu-ray. Look for this release to favor the Blu-ray version vs. the HD-DVD version.

All of this on the heels of Nickerson's departure from WB. I wonder what's cooking
