Someone on OT.com is saying that the 2000 UK dvd has shorter intros but is the dub. So what is to be believed?

Taylor's intros have a slight downtrodden quality to them, while Burton's dub is a little more "peppy" if that makes sense. It's apparent when he says "How do you do?" or during the Sorcerer's Apprentice intro. You can sort of tell during the soundtrack bit too.

Default Interactive Fantasia Show - London

Quote:
Disney announces immersive show based on Fantasia at London’s Vaults - The Stage

[Show spoiler]
by Giverny Masso - Apr 17, 2018

Disney has announced an immersive experience at the Vaults in London based on its classic 1940 film Fantasia.

Sounds and Sorcery will feature a new recording from a 96-piece orchestra, under the musical direction of Stephen Higgins, as well as 3D projections to create a “multi-sensory experience”.

Audiences will wear headphones and be guided on an interactive journey around the Vaults’ maze of tunnels under Waterloo station.

The production coincides with the 90th birthday of the iconic Disney character Mickey Mouse, who features in Fantasia.

It runs from July 3 to September 30, with press night on July 11.

Kieron Vanstone, director of the Vaults and producer of Sounds and Sorcery, said: “When we first began exploring the world of Disney Fantasia, we knew instinctively that this was the next epic scale immersive project for us.

“For some time we’d been exploring the use of headphones, and specifically binaural technology, as a technique for plunging our audiences deeper into the worlds we create.”

Anna Hill, chief marketing officer at the Walt Disney Company UK and Ireland, said: “Fantasia was, and still is, a ground-breaking movie and Walt Disney’s creativity continues to inspire people all over the world today, so it is fitting that this experiential event is paying tribute to this seminal work in this way.”

Sounds and Sorcery will be directed by Daisy Evans, the founder and artistic director of Silent Opera, whose work focuses on the use of headphones to bring classical music to new audiences.

Design is by Kitty Callister in collaboration with sound designer David Gregory, video designer Doug Foster, lighting designer Jake Wiltshire and production manager Andy George.

Sounds like a fun experience! Could be a great lead-in to a Signature Collection announcement, right?!

new recording... I check out. Stokowski was as much a part of this film as Walt Disney or Mickey Mouse.

Not sure why people want the blu so bad. I'd rather the DVD over the blu, since the audio on DVD is closest to Fantasound.

The Laserdisc has the best sound. It is like the Fanta-sound. It moves around, from side to side and to the back. Why Disney ruined it for the BD release is beyond me.

Wasn't Fantasound 90 used for the 2000 DVD?

Fantasia 2000 will always have a special place in my heart because it’s quite literally the first movie I’ve ever watched.

Don't think so... The film has never really sound correct in the DVD format. I saw it in the theaters 3 times, 3 different decades - and the closest to sounding correct was the Laserdisc release. It has the most seperation and motion. The BD is horrible. Turthfully, even Fantasia 2000 sounds bad. I saw that film in IMAX and although it was very different from the original in terms of mixing it did sound better in the theater. The BD is nothing as it was. Disney plays with their soundtracks on home video in various ways. This is true with the Lion King with its "home theater mix". Or with the "near speaker mix" on OZ the Magnificent. John Carter too has a re-mix - it sound much, much better in the theater.

That's my understanding. However, just to be clear, only for the music tracks of the individial sequences. All the sound for the interstitials was ADR/Foley to accompany the "road show" version (no original Deems Taylor dialog audio, newly-recorded music for the orchestra warming up, etc.). If you want Deems Taylor, you need the laserdisc release.

I like how Mickey mispronounces Stokowski in Fantasia 2000. Stoki wouldn't have shaken his hand if he knew that.

Default Fan Restorations?

Does anyone know if there is a fan restoration currently going on for Fantasia at least just to get the correct audio tracks added for the intros? And if so is there any way you could link it?

Managed to get someone to rip LD tracks. And also have HD sunflower footage. So the material is out there.

Would you be able to PM it to me? I'm gonna try my hand at restoring it. I've been looking for the LD but haven't been able to find

I have a LD port on a Chinese DVD that retains the Fantasound tracks.

Ran the Fantasia 2000 blu ray through makemkv, and it seems that some of the old bonus features are actually on the disc. Including all of the "Fantasia That Never Was" segments.

It's been several years since I played this disc, but I recall you could play the bonus features directly from disc (not the long-dead BD-Live site the menus call up) on a PC with the right tools.

Agreed.

A couple years ago, I thoroughly compared the audio on my CAV LaserDisc copy of Fantasia to the audio on my Blu-Ray copy. The Pro Logic mix on the LaserDisc is indeed superior to the DTS-HD Master Audio mix on the Blu-Ray.

Out of all the soundmixes on the home video releases of Fantasia, the Pro Logic mix on the LaserDisc is my favourite.
