The first two are some of my favorite movies, but after watching the third one last night, I was really dissapointed. I wasn't expecting much going in, but I thought it was just awful. There wasn't any real tension, I didn't really connect with any of the characters so it was hard to care if they died, I think it was a very bad decision to
[Show spoiler]kill off Newt, Hicks, and Bishop
, and overall it was just excruciatingly pointless and boring.

Also, during some of the dialog, I thought my center channel's tweeter was blown because it was very muffled. I actually got up and put my ear to the speaker to make sure it was still working. It was just in some scenes, not the whole movie, but still. I also thought that the alien looked pathetic most of the time. It might just be because it was the workprint, but it looked like someone painted a cartoon Alien onto the film cells. It looked almost like I was watching The Flintsones or something.

At this point, I almost wish that I would've just rebought the single disc versions of the first two movies again instead of the boxset. I'll probably watch Alien Resurrection in the next day or two, and I really don't see how it could be any worse than the third one.
Sorry that you didn't like it, and the 4th is worse. Ya, the Alien in the 3rd looks terrible at times. Didn't notice the dialog issue. May re-watch it soon.

On Rotten Tomatoes the 4th one is rated 10% higher than the 3rd one. I guess I'll see here in a day or two. At least the first two are freakin' bad-ass amazing.

Ron Perlman and Brad Dourif are pretty cool. They help the movie a lot!

I love's me some hot tamales.

Are you watching Alien or AlienS? For Alien, I think the original is great, but with Aliens I love the sentry guns in the directors cut. Neither one is really that drastically different with the different versions though.

Damn that sounds good! I love stuffed olives.

A lot of people like the second movie better, but I love them both. To me, the first one is a lot more dark and ominous, more like a brooding thriller, but the second one is more of an action film with some good comedy mixed in. I think they compliment each other perfectly.

Plus you get to see half of Ripley's ass hanging out in the first one. I still like the second better.

I personally think that the set pieces and cinematography in Alien looks more timeless than Aliens, and I love the "space truckers" mentality that the characters are just regular people doing a job, which was pretty unheard of for it's time. Up until then, most space traveling people in movies were super-scientist/hero types. The characters in Aliens were much more "posing it up for the camera" one-dimensional bad-asses. I also feel that the slower pacing of Alien really ratchets up the tension, and it comes across as more mysterious and forboding than Aliens.

Personally, I think Alien is the better all around film, but Aliens is a lot more of a kick-ass shoot 'em up popcorn action ride. I think they are both excellent films, just in different ways.

Sorry, I missed this post Travis. I haven't seen 4 in so long that I really don't remember much of anything at all about it. That's at least one cool thing, that it has Hellboy and Wormtongue in it.

The opening scene gave me goosebumps when I saw it on BD. Seen it so many times, but with the extra detail, it was like seeing it for the first time.
