I cannot believe all the people in here saying this not worth upgrading/stinks etc. I feel like people are trying to convince themselves not to buy. The old Blu-ray is near unwatchable so enjoy that drink coaster of a disc. Sure this remaster is not a Sony job, but I am happy with the upgrade if only to get rid of all the nasty EE, causing grain to just look like trash and obliterate details. DNR is there, but hardly ruins the image. Details get a healthy bump and colors are more saturated. I am a fan of restrained HDR application for catalog titles. And that audio!!!

The old BD is really showing its age. It's got a harsher, digital look to it with the magenta push, edge enhancement, film grain seemingly mixed with video noise, and that contrast boosted appearance with clipped whites, etc. It has the look of a master that was created for DVD but then just thrown onto BD. The UHD BD is an improvement in all areas. Could it have been better? Absolutely. However, that can be said for most UHD BDs if you really get down to it. There was probably always something that could have been improved if you analyze a disc hard enough as we know.
So, the way I look at it, what is the reality of the situation? I can watch the BD or the UHD BD. Which is better? And forget even thinking to watch the 3D in 2D; it was never graded to watch in 2D and looks severely off that way. Watch JP 3D in 3D instead (although I have no interest in 3D). |

No surprise considering that they're still working on the script for JP3.

- 2011 Blu-ray looks like a DVD - 2018 UHD Blu-ray looks like a Blu-ray Maybe I have to wait 2030 to watch a true UHD Jurassic Park? Universal is always a format late.... |

Sure, I have no problem with that comparison (although I think the UHD BD in some areas is a little better than that). But the question is, what are you going to do next time you watch JP?

I can't spend €25 for this kind of quality... I consider this as a remastered Blu-ray, not a UHD disc |

Just picked up my steelbook set from Best Buy. Truly gorgeous packaging top to bottom. I love that they even built in dividers into the slip box to prevent the two steelbooks from rubbing against each other. I love the original film dearly, and I can’t wait to watch it tomorrow.
Quick question, if I redeem the digital codes on Vudu will I get the UHD versions, or do I have to go to the universalredeem site? |

As far as the first film, I think the 3D is by far the way to go based on what I'm hearing in reviews, including SpareChange, who knows what he's talking about, and even he says the 3D is a superior viewing experience. The 4k offers a mediocre improvement over the blu-ray from what I'm hearing, but I saw the 3D in the theatre, and it was quite amazing - up there with Titanic in terms of a 3D conversion on an older film. I'll take an outstanding 3D experience of Jurassic Park over a mediocre 4k release any day. Now if it's a choice of the old 2D blu-ray or the UHD, obviously the UHD will win, but 3D>UHD in this particular case.

Sometimes the 3D is the way to go. Sometimes the UHD is. Sometimes they are both winners, depending on your mood. In this case, the 3D is the winner. And I'm not interested in the 2nd or 3rd films, so I really have no interest in this set. |

As a huge fan of 50's 3D films, I can certainly appreciate that being filmed for 3D can make a difference, and they just don't film 3D movies like they did back then - even the best 3D films today fall short. Composition makes a huge difference with 3D. But Titanic and the others I mentioned are so well done that I would swear they were thinking in 3D while they were composing their shots. So many shots seem set up perfectly for 3D in those films. |

4,5 m screen (projection).

Given that a 35mm movie has an effective resolution far over 4K, I would expect an UHD to offer a true 4K solution then. Now look at the JP UHD screenshots. In no way can I imagine Universal really properly rescanned 35mm to 4K. Like MisterXDTV put it: We shouldn't need to analyize if there are a few more pixels than on the BD, but get the true 4K resolution which many threatrical releases potentially have to offer. Dynamic contrast does not work the same in HDR as it does in SDR for LG sets. People need to start learning that HDR is a different beast that requires different settings. |
