I never picked up the Lionsgate UHDs of the sequels (just the first one, which I've since sold off in anticipation of this upcoming set) but GODDAMN that's how bad the compression is on FB Part II? Lmao. That's some YouTube quality shit right there. Wow. Like I actually laughed out loud. That's brutal.

I'm just asking because it seems that the audio (according to what you've been hinting) will be the real star of the party with less emphasis on the video. Not that I'm not looking forward to the new grading, just trying to get an idea of how different they will look compared to the current ones.
I can't guarantee what these will/won't look like but they are tweaking the existing 4K restorations, which in themselves are verr naice for detail and grain IMO but the thin, yellowy grading is a bit squinky. Fiddle with that - though not necessarily to make them "pop" (ugh) because that's not what DV does - and give them a decent encode and they should best the existing discs whilst perhaps not being a quantum leap in whatever it is you're looking for visually.

sounds good to me, never picked up current 4k releases, so whatever they will do with the new ones will be an automatic upgrade anyway, and probably the best they'll ever look again on home video.

Sounds about right. Just getting the audio straight, especially the currently terrible Rambo II 5.1, would be reason enough to go forward with this.

So is this basically going to give us the way the film is supposed to look like video and hdr grade wise unlike what we got before?

It's definitely the encode.

Yeah after see the currently available release wow it’s as bad as what shout did to the craft. it’s a shame shout went downhill they in the past would have offered a replacement of the botched discs now they say we don’t care.

If 1-3 have OG stereo mixes that would probably sway me to double dip.

If they fix the milky blacks and Pisstavision, also, it's a sure buy.

Any word on how Part 4 will be handled? The current disc isn't up to much, is it?

Yes, OG stereo and 70mm 6-track where applicable. Tweaked grading inc. a Dobly Vision pass. They're evaluating what to do with 4 re: the image. The current UHD is yet another Lionsgate filmout but it's one of their betterer ones IMO, I really like it. But when I inquired they said they hadn't decided to stick with that or go back to the 2K DI.

Someone told me. Someone who's involved with the production of these discs.

Since I can’t fathom one reason why using a filmout would be preferred over the actual 2K DI, is it safe to assume it’s somehow costlier to do the latter?
