I think one of the major limitations is that some of the db entries don't have cast/directors listed. I have the same problems as you reported for Clouzot. That and it seems to only work for US titles...

On a Criterion note, I went to Barnes and Noble and picked up House, The Red Shoes, Ride with The Devil, and Army of Shadows using the buy two get one sale and the 50% off coupons. One thing that kind of surprised me is that when I asked if they had Broadcast News, which I was hoping to get, they said they didn't even order any. Seems strange to me. I would think that Brooks would be a pretty decent seller, as far as the average Barnes and Noble customer goes.

What did the total come out to doing that? I know it was a very "Your mileage may vary" type of thing, as to whether they'd stack the coupon with the B2G1 deal..... glad it worked out for you.

I asked about that and they said that we could use the coupons with the sale, but only one coupon per transaction, so we split it up into two transactions. Each movie came out to about $17 or so, plus tax. With the sale I bought three for about $57 or so (one for $35, one for half that, and the third for free), and my wife bought the fourth for half off of the $34.99 price listed.

As expected from an older transfer it's hardly anything to get excited about, but probably serviceable. I hope it'll drop to $24.99 on Amazon.

I'm really looking forward to Amacord and dvdbeavers' screencaps don't look that great. But his ones of The Double Life don't look great either and I was pretty impressed with the Artificial Eye disk even though the rain at the start does look very artificial. So I'm hopeful that Amacord will look much better that the screencaps. Despite that, he doesn't seem too enamoured with the quality himself.

Programming note: Kubrick's The Killing (which is rumored to have played at ATP Festival with Criterion credits) is playing on MGM HD tonight (7pm for me, probably 10pm for east coasters). I'm pretty excited to see this again and in HD, haven't seen it in a long time.

Maybe you're right. I don't remember paying attention to the rain the last time I saw it but that was on the Artificial Eye dvd. Didn't have the luxury of Criterion in those days

Criterion posted this art proof for the cover of White Material on their facebook. Fairly standard stuff, but down in the comments under it a commenter brings up working for a book-binding company and that they got to work on the Breathless Blu-ray booklet. He also said that since Breathless they have worked on Seven Samurai, Amacord and... Salo (!). When someone questioned him working on Salo, he replied back saying he just realized Salo isn't on Blu and he hopes he didn't ruin anything.

Man, I am hoping against hope that this guy isn't a fibber and that Salo is on it's way. Such earthly delights await hi-def.

I watched Robinson Crusoe on Mars last night. The movie itself was okay, but the music video in the special features is one of the greatest things ever. Its on youtube if anyone wants to see it.
