This is a good question, because there are many underlying costs in the reproduction of Movie Discs. There is a difference in price of the three main Formats, DVD, BD, and UHD. DVD still out-sells all of them, but UHD remains strong in catalog titles. The Disc Market continues to decline, but as people discover Streaming that has changed were more people are taking advantage of the SVOD and other Streaming Providers.

One of the interesting comments was that X-Men Days of Future Past (2014) was offered uncensored on Disney +, seems if it's PG13 and lots of action, thats OK.

Deadpool 3 appears to be progressing.

IF you like more Marvel discussion about whats coming see below

DVD barely outsells blu-ray and 4K combined. Last year, DVD was 52.8% of physical media sales with blu-ray and 4K bringing in the other 47.2%. More titles are released on DVD than on the blu-ray formats, also. 4K UHD discs are, by definition, a blu-ray format.

Purchasing content, no matter how you do it, has been in decline since 2011. Purchases and subscription streaming are entirely different expenditures; the latter is a recurring rental. Purchases and rentals are different behaviors.

Becoming a Netflix original seems to be the punishment you receive for making a bad movie.

I do like stranger things and have the first two seasons on UHD BD, but I can’t think of any other good Netflix originals.

I loved Netflix but I cancelled them the day they announced Qwikster. Now, I have 2 friends who are happy to let me use their Netflix but I don’t bother. I don’t find it worthwhile even at no cost.

If either of my neighbors netfux passwords still work, I will check them out. Thanks.

My neighbor often comes over to watch movies at my place so I’ll see if she’s interested in any of these.

Netflix has a handful of good shows making them worth keeping. For every good one, though, they have what seems like 20 forgettable ones.

I enjoyed:

Ozark
Dark
Memories of the Alhambra
The Ballad of Buster Scruggs
The Haunting Of Hill House

I even had fun with The Babysitter

Netflix Still Renting Discs Despite Accounting Indifference

Quote:
Netflix has quietly stopped including its legacy by-mail DVD rental service on quarterly financial reports. The Los Gatos, Calif.-based company launched in 1997 as the first home video service delivering DVD movie rentals in the mail. At its height, Netflix was the largest single customer for the U.S. Postal Service — generating hundreds of millions of dollars in operating profit.

Now it’s difficult to find mention of packaged media on Netflix’s balance sheet. To be sure, the company still offers two standalone DVD plans. The standard option ($7.99 monthly) affords subscribers access to one disc at a time, while the premier plan ($11.99) enables two discs out at a time.

My sister still uses their disc by mail program as well as subscribing to their streaming service. I am always surprised when these discs actually play; some of them look like they were used as Home plate in a baseball game.

Haunting of Hill House had one of the best “One Shot” scenes I have ever seen in episode 6. The whole episode was made up of 5 One Shot scenes with the longest being 17 minutes. Not only was it a technical marvel in my mind, but it was a powerful episode at the same time. There are spoilers in the attachment, but it is a cool read for those who have seen the show, with Flanagan breaking down all the work and preparation that went into the episode. Oh yeah, the whole series sounds amazing also.

Theatres, music and performance venues can reopen with social distancing in August - BBC News 7/17/20

Quote:
Indoor performances with socially distanced audiences can take place in England from the start of August, the prime minister has said.

The government is working with the sector on pilots of performances with socially distanced audiences in theatres and music venues.

Boris Johnson said the findings would feed into final guidance for venues in the run-up to them reopening.

But the head of Theatres Trust said the move "will not be economically viable".

Although Jon Morgan, director of Theatres Trust welcomed the news as "a step in the right direction", he said that "for most theatres it will not be economically viable to reopen with 30-40% audience required under social distancing".

He said they needed to progress to theatres being allowed to open fully "with the appropriate safety measures", adding: "Without this most theatres cannot reopen viably and we need the go-ahead for Christmas shows, on which the survival of many theatres depends, in the next few weeks at the very latest."

The government stressed that "audiences, performers and venues will be expected to maintain social distancing at all times."

It added: "This guidance will be for organisations in England. Organisations in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland should adhere to the advice of the devolved administrations at all times."
Not specifically movie theaters, but a update.

If I lived in a small town I would use Neflix's disc service. I used to love Netflix, but about 10 years ago they stopped caring about disc customers. The last time I had a disc subscription (or a subscription of any kind) was 2013. After that I utilized the public library. For two years now I am a loyal Redbox customer. Still, Netflix do (did) have a large library of titles, and I toy with the idea of signing up for a couple months.

I still use their disc program but I'm thinking about dropping it. I leave stuff sitting around way too long and half the time I wind up sending things back unwatched. Well, not half the time but not infrequently either.

As for the condition of discs, it's ironic, BDs are way more durable than DVDs but they're also way fussier. I've played DVDs that have that Home Plate look too but have had to tilt BDs against the light to find the tiny smudge that was keeping them from loading

Thanks for the Netflix recommendations.

I hate putting half an hour into something to realize it isn’t worth finishing.

I used Redbox for the first time in years yesterday. I did have to clean the discs.

My neighbor wanted to watch Ford vs Ferrari and even though I have access to HBO Max, I went to get the disc for the quality and reliability.

Two of the movies I rented (Trolls World Tour and the Hunt) were listed as showing at my local theater next door to the redbox kiosk.
