Rewatched Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. Very good movie with great 3D and an excellent sound track. One of the movies people say is too dark, didn’t have a problem. Highly recommended.

Edit: Almost full screen.

Sorry I've not yet watched this. Were you able to see see some of the comments on this thread though? I saw it in 2D way back and liked the visual and story enough to warrant a buy., even if the 3D turns out mild.

I'm gonna buy that also some time in 2024. Hopefully stocks back to ATH that time so I have extra money.

Yeah I definitely have some buyer's remorse buying Black Widow and Shang Chi when they first came out at each of their highest prices in separate orders. Could've waited and saved a lot of money on the items and combined shipping. Oh well....

Just watched Dolittle. I don't see where it deserved so many poor reviews. The 3D had nice depth and though more ingenuity could have been used to.give certain scenes a greater "wow" effect, the overall presentation was quite pleasant.

It was a charming srory and the one liners from the animals often had me in stitches. Very nice audio as well.

A definite recommendation.

Luckily I didn't like Black Widow enough to buy it when it first came out. Buying it now saved me about 15 dollars but I do wish I had waited for before buying Shang-chi. Like you I wish I could have bought them both at today's prices. But what I really wish is that I hadn't bought Ralph breaks the Internet lol.

Typical modern Chinese fantasy movie which usually means good to great 3D and this one doesn't disappoint

Fun movie, some great 3D, DTS:x audio? Profit!

Rewatched War for the Planet of the Apes. Best of the movies and probably best 3D. The audio is very good. Highly recommended.

I last watched Mars Needs Moms. A motion capture animated film produced by Robert Zemeckis. Nowhere near as good as The Polar Express, but it has a decent story and the 3D is worthy. It has a good pop out sequence with glass shattering.

Do you recall when in the film this glass shattering sequence occurs?

I haven’t hardly watched anything recently, last time I watched this one was years ago but a very good movie.

A good buddy of mine gave me a copy of this, and for free it’s a pretty good deal. Not great, but I liked it ok and the 3D is pretty decent.

Last night I watched Maleficent: Mistress of Evil for the first time. The 3D is strong to medium-strong throughout. Disney seems to have really gotten its conversions to a consistently strong level after 2017. There are a lot of shots that seem tailor-made for 3D, like a giant loudspeaker/horn they keep returning to, as well as lots of flight scenes and midair explosions in the final battle.

This is a movie that wasn’t even remotely on my radar when it came out, but now that I’ve doubled down on watching every 3D movie, I’m glad I found it. For a long time I only wanted to watch Oscar-level “cinema” or just the biggest budget box office spectacles. But now I’m seeing there’s a lot to like in these mid budget “B” movie genre films. With movies like this, the Narnia films, Snow White and the Huntsman, or Gods of Egypt… there’s a lot of creativity, and a lot of big ideas… they’re taking risks that you don’t see too often anymore on big budget movies, and I hope we don’t lose that going forward. Sure, sometimes it ends up being a little corny, but so what? It’s better to be sincere and goofy than make another movie that hides its self-consciousness in layers of irony! Give me more bird/human hybrid children! Give me stellan Skarsgard towing the sun around the earth! My wife might laugh at it sometimes, but that’s because its FUN! The new Doctor Strange had some similarly weird shit and I’m damn happy Disney let them pit it on screen!

After the pandemic, it feels like we’re heading into a world dominated by sure-fire IP, and it would be a big shame to lose a series like Maleficent in the process.

I'm not nit picking but I would consider Maleficent Mistress of Evil a big budget spectacle and not a mid budget movie as it cost 185 million which is really up there and only 15 mil less than Spiderman No Way Home. Also the Narnia films, Snow White and the Huntsmen, God's of Egypt, these are all big budget productions.

I have both movies in 4K and 3D and I haven't watched the 3D versions yet (so what else is new) But I've watched a number of scenes a few times and from what I saw the 3D was mostly medium at best. But that was before my recent setup changes. So I hope you are right because I do like these movies and I do want the 3D to be good.

I watched San Andreas (2015 with the Rock). It was action filled and the 3D really added to the experience. I had not seen it before in 2D.

I popped the disc back in and checked. It happens at 1 hour and 11 minutes into the film. The audio is really nice too.

So I watched Saw 3D today and the words wow and ouch come to mind. Wow! The 3D is amazing. Ouch! It looks very painful, gruesome and downright disgusting. The movie is literally blood and guts from start to finish.

After watching Saw 3D I thought I would take a quick look at Maleficent with my improved setup. I forgot how much I like this story and I ended up watching the whole movie lol. Not only that, but I watched it with just the TV and no speakers which I almost never do for a movie with a multi-channel sound track.

Anyway as for the 3D, there are a few occasions where even a mild screen break would be appreciated. But the 3D overall is nice and about medium strength, never weak but never really strong either. Next up will be Mistress of Evil
