I would laugh if next year they release standalone versions of all these HGL films.

There's a few cool bits in the £160 limited limited edition, but not £60 more. That's if the regular limited edition goes down to £100.

2 books, a vinyl, postcards, an eyeball and a barf bag.

It's cool, but this extra stuff can't be worth more than £20.

are these of these worth picking up individually?

i think the closest in taste i have to HG lewis would be John Waters and Russ Meyer (and forgive me if i'm completely off base with comparing these 3 directors in the same sentence. no idea what i'd be getting into with HG wells besides gore and horror).

Hmm, so the cheaper LE (2500 copies) will only have the Annual reprint for printed material ? Disappointing.

I only see 17 listed in the set features. Where did you see the set contains 18 disc, I seem to be overlooking it
The 18th disc is the 7" EP.

I must have read some different HG Wells books as a kid

Lewis (!) isn't a million miles away from the comparison, but add some Ed Wood and some Frank Henenlotter.

I, too, have no doubt whatsoever that many of the HGL films will receive standalone releases. If they don't do that, Arrow is leaving a hell of a lot of money on the table.

So, all 4 titles from my order are FINALLY In Stock! Hoping it'll be shipped soon.
Actually, I'm hoping everyones orders from the sale will be shipping now.

Perhaps next sale I'll put Blow Out with the order. Is there one in Fall or only one during the Winter? Keep forgetting the frequency of them.

They do that with all their LE sets though, no?

Got the second of my sale orders today, though i never got a shipping notification, so there is hope for you all. My 3rd will hopefully be here next week. My onsite order still says 'at warehouse'

It's all lucky bag shite. The more I think about it the more I may even wait for the individual releases.

I'm getting a bit sick of these über sets, especially the mega limited ones.

How much were Poe and BWHAH 6 discs sets ? Iam afraid they can ask more than gbp 100 for LE 2500 versions

Just found out about these announcements, and I think they've covered a lot of bases for many of the genre fans. You've got your J-Horror (Dark Water), Independent US movies (Burnt Offerings), Much sought-after foreign films (Dekalog), Slashers (The Burning), Classic comedies (Woody Allen) and a deluxe, no expense spared, Limited Edition box set of the progenitor of gore films, Mr H.G.Wells (sorry, H.G.Lewis ) himself.

I can only imagine those of you saying how disappointed they are with today's announcements never lived through the early 80s during the video boom in the UK. Do you know how hard it was to get anything like most of these films? Nowadays you have streaming, Sky, Netflix, Amazon Video and hundreds of places to buy cheaply online.

Back in my day, if I wanted a copy of The House by the Cemetery, then I had to catch a bus and meet some bloke 10 miles away, hand over cash, and be given a paper bag with a 3rd-generation Greek VHS copy (with burnt-in Greek subtitles and uncut, natch). And I say this because that's exactly what happened.

I think a lot of film fans, especially the younger ones, have this misplaced sense of entitlement (and some of the older ones too - they should know better!) and it really irks me.

Just be thankful that Arrow Films are putting in all this effort to ensure these films, be they gore, J-Horror, independents, foreign, whatever, are being made to us, the film watching public.

And to the *****ers and whiners out there - you know who you are - if it's all so disappointing, then why not go and commission a release or two yourselves. Put together the transfer onto disc, the colour correction, the extras, the interviews with cast members, the liner notes, the reversible covers and so on, and let us know how you get on. Thanks.

I'd just like to finish by saying "**** me, that Herschell Gordon Lewis box set is expensive." Would love to have it, but personal circumstances prevent it. Just The Burning for me, although I also have my eye on Dekalog which looks like being a superlative release.

From the amazon version
Quote:
Additional 2 bonus Blu-rays featuring 1.33:1 versions of Blood Feast, Scum of the Earth, Color Me Blood Red, A Taste of Blood and The Wizard of Gore [limited editions exclusive]
Additional bonus DVD: Herschell Gordon Lewis: The Godfather of Gore documentary [limited editions exclusive]
Given the 2 versions already announced are limited editions, and both contain these discs, I don't think there's any doubt that at least some of these, probably all, will receive standalone releases down the line.

It will still depends on how quickly they sell out. They are at least marked as exclusive most likely for both trying to push these LE to sell out quickly as a "get it now or you'll miss it", but also so that depend won't say later, if standard releases come, that they weren't told these would be exclusive.

But still : if it turns out there isn't so much demand, it might jeopardize future standard releases.
