In the old west days of the thread we would discuss various things, including divining's deep dive into director's filmographies. This thread wasn't always Unpopular Opinions, it used to be a hangout/dunk on DVR's awful opinions thread.

You could do the crazy think like I did and watch all of them in order. It's just shy of 80 movies.

That's, like, one solid afternoon of movies.

Well you, & these quotes

The Fugitive belongs to an earlier, lesser known faction of his work, self-consciously 'arty' films that demonstrated his interests in German expressionism, English literature and religious ideology. - Bret Wood
Quote:
"once in Mexico, Ford jettisoned most of the script and, giving leave to his fancy, made a highly abstract art film. The Fugitive lost considerable money, caused a rift between [writer Dudley] Nichols and Ford, and has posed problems even for Ford's most devoted followers. Only the director himself consistently defended it. 'I just enjoy looking at it.' 'To me, it was perfect.' And in terms of composition, lighting and editing, The Fugitive may be among the most enjoyable pictures." - Tag Gallagher
I was sold! I need to check this out!

I think I'm good. I have a fair amount on blu already, Unfortunately looks like Fugitive is not available. So will have to search elsewhere, added to my Most Wanted Movies List.

I do sometimes have the obsessive I wanna rewatch a move from a director so I'll watch their whole filmography. I've done that with Scorsese, Coens, Carpenter, & Cronenberg.

I enjoy finding the hidden gems (like The Fugitive) that everyone else has forgotten and ignore.

The copy I found of The Fugitive is on YouTube. It has Korean subtitles that seem to fall completely out of synch by about the halfway point. It's not an ideal way to watch it, but I did get to watch it.

I have found it available for $5 to buy or $2 to rent on iTunes, or a Japanese Blu-Ray. The hidden gems can be fun, to discover. I need to find a time to do it, I just can lose momentum and move onto something else too quickly.

Nearly all musicals, kung-fu flicks and rom-coms are just horrid.

Oh after looking at the bottom directors list, I’ll say, I really enjoy Judd Apatow movies. I have issues, but I still enjoy them.

Should be nothing unpopular about that!
All 3 genres are more often than not made lazily by people who know that there's an audience out there regardless of quality, too much innovation can put off the base and be box office kryptonite, so you might as well just make another clone of a tried and tested success.
Unfortunately the ur texts of said genres that get recycled were pants to begin with, making the clones pants squared.

(I think we all agree that A Good Day To Die Hard is an abomination.)

This post had me smiling as someone finally agrees with me on all this!

I'll got one step further. Polanski is overrated. Or at the very least Rosemary's Baby, Chinatown and Repulsion are highly overrated films.

That’s pretty funny! Fortunately, genuinely creative people out there know more about those subjects than you do.

I know I’d rather watch a Busby Berkeley film over a Jodorowsky film - now Berkeley taps into tactile, weird experiences far greater than Jodorowsky could ever create. No pre-packaged “weirdness” like circus cliches. The general craft is better too.
