They didn't feel the need to explain why Johnny wasn't Latino like Sue in the other films.

And again... how is it changing everything about them? They're still Brother and Sister.

He still lights on fire and can fly. And she can still turn invisible and project force fields.

I fail to see how a skin color change really changes EVERYTHING about the character here.

Cause so far... everything that makes the characters who they are is still there.

While I already knew, some people likely wouldn't even know Jessica Alba wasn't white. You can say I'm reaching, but there are plenty of people that aren't very observant. That's much easier to pass off than black and white obviously.

Neither of the characters were adopted. That's quite a big change if they would go down that road.

I have nothing against the actor or black people, but he's not so good that they can't get somebody else.

How so? Adoptive or Half-Siblings can't be as close as 100% Brothers and Sisters?

Because that's kinda a really negative attitude to have towards adoption.

How close siblings are has very little to do to how much of the same genetic code they share.

As detailed in The Marvel Saga: Official History of The Marvel Universe #16, Susan Storm, and her younger brother, Jonathan grew up in the town of Glenville, Long Island, children of a physician named Franklin Storm and a woman named Mary. The parents left their kids alone one night to travel to a dinner honoring Dr. Storm. On the way, a tire blew out but only Mary was injured. Franklin escaped injury and insisted on operating on his wife. He was unable to save her and she died. After his wife's death, Dr. Franklin Storm became a gambler and a drunk, losing his medical practice, which led him to the accidental killing of a loan shark. Franklin did not defend himself in court, because he still felt guilty over Mary's death. With their father in prison, Susan had to become a mother figure for her younger brother.
If their going to change the origins of the characters they damn well better explain it in the movie. No one's saying they wouldn't have a bond What we're saying is its an unnecessary change to the characters origin that will need to be explained one way or another when they could easily just change Thing or Reed.

Why not make the Fantastic four a diverse race. Mr Fantastic could be an Arab, sue storm a chinese immigrant, johnny storm a black dude and the thing as pacific islander...now that would be fun...lol

The movies are not the 616 comic universe. Changes are made constantly for films.

A character being a different skintone doesn't typically change an entire character's history.
here's the answer to your question.

There's adoption. Sue being the product of a 1st marriage. And so on.
by doing this they are just messing around w/the origins for no reason what so ever.

In the 616 Universe. The Movies are not the comic universe. They're an adaption.

Again... should the film be a period piece where they're still trying to beat the Russkies to the moon?

Should Sue Storm be a weak willed woman who's talked down to by Mr. Fantastic all the time?

Or should we expect things to be changed that are products of the era of the comics?

Again, the color of someone's skin in comic books is not their origins. Unless we're talking about The Hulk. Heh. The origins of the Fantastic Four involve cosmic rays and gaining various super powers. I don't recall anything stating that their powers could only be held by white people. Or that they had Super White powers. Johnny's were being able to light on fire and fly. His origins have very little to do with what color skin he has.

Or Superman Asian-American. Oh wait, already happened. And nobody died because of it.

You guys act like there is no chance you'll enjoy the film if the characters are played by black actors. Saying things like you won't even see it. That's sad. And I don't buy alluding to changing a character's race meaning they're changing the entire backstory. That isn't true at all. They change things about characters all the time, and some people might bicker, but mostly it falls by the wayside (*cough*white Khan*cough*) but the second they try to cast a black actor you guys flip.

I agree. Like I said, I think he could do the job. I hope he does, but he doesn't strike me as Storm. I'm not going to write off the movie because of the casting though.

Another good example in the comic book film area... is The Kingpin.

Sure the movie wasn't very good unless you watch the extended cut. But I don't think anyone could have done a better job and fit the role better than the late great Michael Clarke Duncan.

I guess I just get pissed of at comic fans, especially after the gruelling racial insults I had sift through when they were talking about the black/Latino Spider-Man (Miles Morales). It was especially disappointing because this is a group I associate with, and was proud to be a part of. You guys are lucky there are enough iconic and great white characters to go around, and even be debated over whether or not to change their ethnicities. Most of the popular black characters are directly tied to some kind of "black story". Black Panther, Luke Cage, Static Shock, etc. This is why they feel the need to "spread the wealth", if you will. But they don't because people get up in arms like they can't root for the character if it doesn't look like it did 40-50 years ago.

I hear you. And don't worry, it's not all comic fans. I happen to really like Miles Morales. Really hoping that when the current "End of the Ultimate Universe" storyline wraps up he'll find a permanent home in the 616.

The problem there was when the news broke, a lot of the media outlets *CoughFoxNewsCough* "reported it" aka misinformed people so they thought it wasn't a new character taking up the mantle in an alternate universe where all bets are off. They made it sound like it was changing the mainstream comic universe version of the character.

The alternate universe comics, the movies, none of them are mainstream 616. And things can and will be changed for a variety of reasons. And has been that way since the very first adaption of them in other medias.

I'm honestly excited to see where Miles' future will be in the 616 universe...He's a great character, very deserving of the Spider-Man title.

I shudder to think of the uproar it would've caused if Will Smith accepted the role of Clark in Superman Returns.
