Unfortunate. I guess they'd already signed off on the encode before the feedback from This Sporting Life? I've heard reports of other releases check discs getting the lossless treatment.

Regarding lossy vs. lossless, it's not just lossless itself that's important. It's the bitrate. Even those with old decoders will get a lovely full bitrate core DTS track from a lossless encode, which is far better than a low bit rate 192 DD track. It's like mp3 vs CD. If they had to use DD, why not 320? The BFI use that bit rate on their mono and stereo DVDs and to me it's noticeably sweeter than the more common 192. You get high frequencies I'd normally only heard on lossless Blu-ray discs.
For an old mono film, I'm guessing sonically a DTS core would essentially sound lossless anyway to even the most discerning ear. |

samdvd1, do you have The Quiller Memorandum disc yet? I'll get mine on Monday, but I was wondering if it had lossless audio. I'm very glad that The Ipcress File does.

Samdvd, thanks for keeping this thread updated regarding the audio options on the recent Blu-ray releases from Network. They've been helpful comments. Can you post (when you can) whether the Terry Thomas film His and Hers, the Vincent Price film The Monster Club and the horror film Hands of the Ripper will have lossless audio please. Thanks.

Still no price for that Supermarionation deluxe set? It would have been helpful to know how much to set aside.

Thinking about this £80 is just about fair if you want all the component parts
You get 4 x BD one with the documentary and 3 with selected episodes. Can just about price at £13 a go times four, for a release date price. Then you get the slipcased book. Not sure if this means a hardback or like original paperback but in a slipcase. Could just about justify £20, based upon what the old version sold at. Then the comic, postcards and outer box. Plus you are paying as limited edition but its 2,500 copies so unlikely to sell out quickly. Sales may also be slow as the sampler disks are RB only and they want £40 for non UK delivery, so both of these will discourage overseas sales. |

The only other site selling this, the Gerry Anderson Shop, wants £40 to ship international (at least to the States) as well.
Thankfully, all of the Blu-rays will be available individually. No need for this box set, given the outrageous international shipping policies of these sites. |
