I think they'll really have to turn over a new leaf and add a lot to this game for free to undo the damage to their image at this point.

So is this free stuff you are suggesting only for people who paid for hair color or for everyone who was outraged about the situation?

Personally, everything in the game should be bought with those currency tokens you get that help unlock costumes. I bought all of the outfits that came with the game, but those tokens still add up for no reason. And I am not interested in the stuff like adding shades on the characters.

I agree, I miss the days of everything being unlockable through gameplay whether it was based on an event, an achievement, in-game currency, or play time. I don’t see anything wrong with charging for cosmetics but it feels empty vs earning it in the game.

The DLC characters have had costumes that you have to unlock with the tokens. You can also use the tokens to unlock stuff like music and titles if that interests you. If not, you'll just keep earning them with nothing to do with them.

It would be nice if they could let you trade them in for stuff being sold as DLC. I don't know of any games that do that. Are there any?

They're very early 90's. But I like loud tacky stuff. I can picture those outfits showing up in a TLC video.

That would be very consumer friendly, there are probably some f2p/smartphone games that do that.

I kind of wish KT/TN had an account that you could link to the game. Buy your season pass from them and the content is available on all of your platforms. It wouldn’t make charging $2 to change your hair color any less ridiculous, but at least for the few things I am willing to pay for, I wouldn’t feel the need to buy it for Xbox and PlayStation.

Last last month, we learned that Tamaki, one of the characters original to Dead or Alive Xtreme: Venus Vacation, would be making her way into Dead or Alive 6 as a crossover DLC fighter. Koei Tecmo revealed more info today via Famitsu that shows off more of her looks and moves via screenshots and video.

An adult woman who’s a successful fashion designer and model. Her natural talent also extends to aikido, which she began learning as a form of self-protection, but managed to learn to a level of mastery. One day, she receives an invitation to the DOA tournament, the festival of “fighting venuses”. Thinking of how she’ll be able to encounter new types of “beauty” there, Tamaki decides to join with a teasing smile on her face.

Martial Arts: Aikido

Using various holds and body movements, Tamaki uses a practical form of aikido that also adds in atemi attacks in Dead or Alive 6. With her flexible and beautiful body movements, she neutralizes opponents’ attacks.

Famitsu has actually posted a 2:46 minute long video that shows off how Tamaki plays, which you can watch above.

Tamaki comes with a whole lot of costumes, some of which are designed after ones she had in Venus Vacation. She can wear glasses like all other characters, but it seems she can’t change her hair color yet.

Apart from Famitsu‘s review of new Dead or Alive 6 playable fighter Tamaki yesterday, they also interviewed Producer Yohei Shimbori on why Tamaki was the woman chosen out of Dead or Alive Xtreme: Venus Vacation‘s original character roster to join the main fighting game series, why they designed her to use Aikido martial arts, and more.

Here are the highlights below:

Famitsu: Why did you choose Tamaki from DOAXVV?

Yohei Shimbori, Producer: “In the first place, we didn’t think of choosing a crossover fighter from Dead or Alive Xtreme: Venus Vacation, but after hearing a countless amount of requests from players both in and outside Japan, we decided to do it.

When we were choosing the character, we narrowed the candidates down from the perspective of “girls who look like they’d be able to fight”. Furthermore, because all of DOA6‘s additional characters are all the kind who have abilities that exceed that of a regular human’s, we wanted to go with something different.

From the remaining candidates, Tamaki was chosen as her adult-like composure shone amongst the rest. All of the girls are quite charming, so we felt some pressure from the act of picking a character itself, but looking at everyone’s reactions when she was announced, we were able to relax after seeing that we managed to meet everyone’s expectations.

By the way, Tamaki says that this tournament is a “festival of Venuses”, but this is just Tamaki’s misconception due to Zack’s flashy way of writing the invitation. This is the same way Zack manages to invite all the girls onto his island in the DOAX series.”

Famitsu: Why did you make her Aikido her battle style?

Shimbori: “As she’s a former model and fashion designer, she has beautiful grace and posture; we also considered her nationality and interest in yoga, logically piecing together her skills and physical abilities. As we wanted to have her use Japan’s traditional martial arts, based on graceful body movements without overexertion, we chose Aikido.

The name sounds similar to Momiji’s Hayabusa-style Aikijutsu, but it’s something completely different. They’re both based on actual Aikido, and we arranged forms for atemi and throws to better fit Tamaki in DOA6.”

Famitsu: DOA6 will reach its first anniversary in March. Please share a message to all the players.

Shimbori: “Thanks to everyone, we’ve managed to reach the first anniversary after DOA6‘s release. Although we implemented various strategies, there are quite a few that did not go well. I’m thankful that we’ve come this far, and it’s all because we’ve received support despite all the trouble caused.

I’ve been deeply involved with Tamaki’s outfit design, moveset creation, etc. down to the finest details. Thanks to putting in all our effort, I believe that she’ll be very well-made as a DOA character, and that players will be able to enjoy a different “flavor” of action from characters up until now. For those who are fans of Tamaki, and those who aren’t, I hope you’ll enjoy playing as her.”

Next Patch Will Have The Final DLC

Koei Tecmo announced that Dead or Alive 6 will get its final DLC with patch v1.22 that is scheduled to arrive in mid-April.

The Dead or Alive 6 patch v.122 update will add the [Revival] High Society Costumes and the [Revival] School Uniforms as DLC. The game will also get various bug fixes and more in the patch. Additionally, players will receive 1 Premium Ticket on April 16, 2020.

After over a year of updates, Dead or Alive 6 will see its final DLC in the patch v1.22. While that means no further additional content in the game, current features such as online matches, rankings, and the store will remain available for all players.

As previously reported, the game just got its v1.21 update as a solution to permanently unlock hair colors. You can read more from the patch notes for v1.21a that just rolled out for PS4:

The hair color change system underwent a large-scale revision: hair color change can be now unlocked on permanent basis for any hairstyle that features it, and includes all available colors.

(E.g., if you purchase Hair Color Change for Marie Rose’s “Long” hairstyle, you will unlock all 16 hair colors for this hairstyle.)
All Premium Tickets that were used to purchase hair colors prior to this update have been refunded.

(E.g., if you have used 5 Tickets to purchase hair colors on v1.20 and v1.21, you will receive 5 Premium Tickets when you apply the v1.21a update.)

As a result of the large-scale revision of the hair color change system, all hair color settings have been reset to default.

The number of Premium Tickets that can be purchased has been limited to the maximum number of items that can be exchanged for Premium Tickets.

Added the information display that shows the number of remaining available costumes and hair colors that can be exchanged for Premium Tickets.

I'm not sure how final this "final" update for DOA6 is. I won't be surprised if they launch an Ultimate version of DOA6 soon and try to brand that as being a new game with more waves of content.

But maybe they really did run their brand into the ground so badly that they're walking away from it for awhile. I know I'm not eager to preorder a DOA7.

I wouldn’t doubt there could be an Ultimate, +, or Last Round for DOA6 that will likely be sold seperately.

But the DLC has just been ok and feeling like there needs something substantial. I feel like with the being less sexualize, they’re almost afraid on what to put in the game. For an example, Phase 4 for instance doesn’t get to transform into her sexy demon form with the Gust Collaboration Set and some other outfits from 5 have been toned down by quite a bit in DOA6.

I do remember that DOA5 original was a bit lacking too in its DLC until +, Ultimate and Last Round, so I hope for better DLC in those versions of 6 when/if it happens. It’s just even DOA5 original had better DLC.
