Default Dead or Alive 6 - Early 2019

Quote:
A new installment of long-running fighting game series Dead or Alive is coming, IGN can exclusively reveal. Almost seven years after the last numbered title, Dead or Alive 6 is planned for an early 2019 release, coming to PS4, Xbox One and PC via Steam.

Running on a new engine, Dead or Alive 6 introduces more refined and realistic visual details, including dynamic facial expressions. Characters make a fierce grimace as they execute kicks and punches, sweat covers their body after a combo, and wounds appear when they take damage. The concept art shows a more serious-looking take on series heroine Kasumi, with wounds on her face and a determined look in her eyes. 4K graphics and a drastically improved lighting system should enhance that new image.

Kasumi, Hayate, Hayabusa, Helena, Jann Lee, and Zack are confirmed as returning characters. According to Director/Producer Yohei Shimbori, the final character roster will include other familiar fighters as well as some brand new characters.

While I'm not the biggest fan, these are the surprises I like to see. Coming out in less than a year and no leaks beforehand.

It's a pretty good fighting game, but with each new game, it's mostly a matter of new characters and better graphics. Beyond that, it's the same general template each time, but that could be said of Sports games too.

I'm already reading hints about one of the prominent "key features" of this series being toned down now. I don't want to get into politics on here again but damn, this world is really changing and not for the better of it...

A lot of pressure to censor everything these days that is offensive to anyone with a large social group. One reason it's refreshing to see Family Guy not give a damn about censorship.

I wouldn’t be surprised after that whole DOAX3 debate.

I want to be excited about this, but I am going to be skeptical for the time being. I play Last Round quite a bit, but when DOAX3 came out, Koei Tecmo became weird about the series. So like toning it down so it can be localized to the states and Europe without editing.

The main thing I care about is the female characters and the outfits I can put on them.

You know what's probably gonna happen? The base release will have the more toned down outfits and physics, and they'll sell DLC to bring back the more revealing outfits and set the age slider to 99. They know the hardcore fans will pay for it, and the more restrained approach for the base game will entice newcomers who were turned off by the oversexualization of the previous games. Remember, DOA5 was supposed to tone down the sex stuff too, and look how that turned out.

If Tecmo does change Dead or Alive's style and tone things down, the first game dating back to the PS1, then I wonder what group is giving them such grief that they would take away a major part of what probably earns them more sales for this series in addition to the fighting?

For the game though, I would like to see a decent sized open world hub area, where you could explore with the character in 3rd person view, and control them directly, going to different portals to find new items, unlockables and then different stages. Of course the main game would be the fight stages as usual, but it would be welcome if they offered some new features for the gameplay itself, not just new camera modes or costumes.

Yeah, I'm not really sure what they hope to get out of toning down the kitschy sex appeal of the series. I doubt it will result in better sales or a better loved game. And what's the worst that could happen from them leaving it as it was? A bunch of angry tweets from people who weren't going to buy the game anyway?

No t&a no sale. I buy dead or alive for the great fighting mechanics and the t&a. Not just one of them, hence why I don't get the spin off games. Same rule applies here unless they back peddle again like they did for doa5.

Well DOAX is T&A. But is also quite fun. Though only played the free to play version of 3 and the Paradise version of 2.

Sounds like the backpeddling is already beginning.

Unlike Shimbori, I really don't have to "wait and see what fans want", several years worth of fetish outfit DLC packs selling well are a pretty good indicator of what DOA fans want. My guess is that this is mostly a bluff so that they get word out the game is coming without having to deal with a negative reaction.

I think most fans are fine with there being toggleable options as far as the sex appeal goes. Even if the default settings are the most conservative, I don't think anybody would mind provided that they can go in a change it to what they want and expect from the series.

"Of course we’re going to tone down at this point, but for downloadable content, we have to see what gamers really want, what their response is. Not all the gamers want the same thing, but we want to ask their opinions, all of them, and get feedback on it. Having said that, Dead or Alive 5: Last Round, we put [sexuality] on the front line and used the soft engine [note: an engine used in DOA5 for advanced butt and breast jiggling] for that. And actually, we’re reflecting on that… maybe we did a little too much. Of course, we will have some jiggling and some movement, but as a whole we’re going to tone down.
I call bullshit on that. DOA 5 has the ability to change the breast bouncing between no bounce to natural and of course the OMG level(which is what I keep it at). So we can choose on how bouncy we want to have. Plus the soft engine IMO made it close to being realistic. Making breasts like this any less and they will not be realistic.

Simply put, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. And also breasts tend to do a lot of bouncing and jiggling when fighting.

Reading what Shimbori had to say makes me sick. This was supposed to be a day one buy but I'll hold out now until it's clear what options there actually are in the final product. I'll happily skip this if it doesn't provide the usual DOA goodness. And this isn't just about that anymore, it has become a matter of principle to me also. You reading this, Tecmo?

If things turn out this way, I hope there will be a huge backlash over it. I'm actually fearing for Bayonetta 3 right now...

So when will Tecmo put out a deal for Dead or Alive 5 with most of the DLC costumes.

Launch of DoA6?
5 months after the launch?
Never?

Last DoA game I played was DoA2 Hardcore for the PS2.
