As this is bloody disgusting take with a grain of salt until more reliable sites report the news. But BD.com does tell the truth at times so who knows.

I didn't think anyone had doubted that the project was indefinitely cancelled, just that they were moving forward with a new director?

I can't blame Warner's for being afraid of a two-parter, if the rumors are true. Horror remakes really haven't proved to be profitable and sounds like it would have a large budget. I'm also not a huge fan of movies being broken up into two parts if there isn't an easy break point where both pieces stand on their own. That being said, I really would have loved to see what Fukunaga had in store.

He has such a small track record yet will be very difficult to replace.

Now, word comes in via Heat Vision that New Line Cinema has set Mama‘s Andy Muschietti to bring Pennywise to the big screen.

It was to have started shooting in late June and a new start date remains unclear. Upon closing of Muschietti’s deal, New Line will begin a search for a new writer to tailor a script to Muschietti’s vision, adds the site. The plan is for the adaptation to still take place over two parts.

No word on if Will Poulter is still cast to play the villainous clown “Pennywise”.

In 1960, seven outcast kids known as “The Loser Club” fight an evil demon who poses as a child-killing clown. 30 years later, they are called back to fight the same clown again.

Fukunaga’s vision for It was to create two separate films, one which tackled the protagonists as children and the second film to focus on them as adults.

I always had Poulter pegged as a potential future Joker even as far back as his kiddie comedy days on UK television. He just has that kind of Jokerish demeanour. If he does stay onboard this, I don't think he'll want to be typecast as a killer clown.

I was looking forward to Fukunaga's take on IT. Sad times.

I haven't seen Mama so I can't comment on whether or not this Andy chap is a competent director. It's a shame that plans fell through for Fukunaga, though. He sounded like somebody with a passion for the project and it seems like each upcoming King adaptation is being squandered by studio interference. Isn't The Stand on its fourth director now?

I just finished re-reading the novel. It's my all-time favourite and I loved reading it again. I recalled how bizarre and psychedelic the last hundred pages are. The reception to the final act has always seemed negative but I think it's brilliant. The mythology with the Turtle and the Other, the Ritual of Chud... all these were missing from the TV mini-series (good though it was) and I'd love to see them recreated in the film, challenging as it may be.

I was rewatching it on tv the other night, a bit sad how a made for tv horror movie has more eerie stuff than anything Hollywood is releasing now. Pennywise is one incredibly hateful nemesis.

In this morning’s article revealing that siblings Andy and Barbara Muschietti will produce In Shadows for Alex and David Pastor, Variety got some fresh info on Pennywise’s pending return.

Andy Muschietti, director and producer of Guillermo del Toro’s Mama, is preparing It, the long-gestured and troubled Stephen King adaptation that would be made as two features.

Recently announced, Andy Muschietti substituted Cary Fukunaga on the New Line project.

Shooting is now set to take place next summer, partly to allow for work with children, as they have the main roles in the first part.

Casting is currently underway, with Will Poulter (The Maze Runner, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader) still in the mix for the role of Pennywise, the demonic clown. “Will Poulter would be a great option. For me he is at the top of my list,” Muschietti firmed up.

“King described 50s’ terror iconography,” he added. “And I feel there’s a whole world now to rediscover, to update. There won’t be mummies, werewolves. Terrors are going to be a lot more surprising.”

I really enjoyed Muschietti's Mama, so I'll reserve judgment.

I didn't. Nice concept, I'll give him that (or whoever wrote the script), but terrible CGI scenes and way too much jump scares. That's lazy horror for me.

Exclusive: ‘It’ Movie Hopefully Shooting This Year; Will Be Rated-R

Quote:
Most novelists are lucky if one of their books catches the eye of Hollywood and makes it into feature film development, but Stephen King’s work has not only inspired countless adaptations, it’s inspired multiple adaptations of the same books. But one of King’s books that’s been ripe for an update is the horror epic It, which was previously made into a miniseries in 1990 and spurred terrible clown-centric nightmares for children everywhere—including yours truly.

A new iteration of It entered development a couple of years ago with True Detective helmer Cary Fukunaga co-writing and directing, but as the project came close to production, the filmmaker departed over creative differences. Now, Mama helmer Andy Muscietti is onboard to direct, and filming is set to get underway later this year.

Steve recently sat down for an exclusive interview with producer Roy Lee at DICE 2016, and Lee confirmed that Fukunaga and Chase Palmer’s original script—which they imbued with many of their personal experiences—has been rewritten:

“It will hopefully be shooting later this year. We just got the California tax credit… Gary Doberman wrote the most recent draft working with Andy Muscetti, so it’s being envisioned as two movies.”

Indeed, the plan was always to make this adaptation two movies, with the first revolving around the characters as children and the second picking up with them as adults. King’s book switches back and forth between the two time periods, and Lee added that once all is said and done, one could conceivably cut these two It movies together to make a more straightforward adaptation of King’s book:

“It is very close to the source material in one way but very different if you look at it as a literary piece of work… We’re taking it and making the movie from the point of view of the kids, and then making another movie from the point of view of the adults, that could potentially then be cut together like the novel. But it’s gonna be a really fun way of making this movie.”

As for the film’s rating, Lee confirms it will be Rated R and adds that while they have a final draft, they’re currently fine-tuning the script to hit their budget target:

“We are very close to turning in the final draft of the script. It’s mainly working on it for budgeting purposes to make it fit within the budget that we have.”

While it remains a bummer that we don’t get to see Cary Fukunaga’s version of this adaptation, it’ll be interesting to see how King’s terrifying novel is translated for modern horror audiences.

Hopefully this new adaptation will get WB to put out a blu-ray release of the mini series.

As long as it's rated R & NOT PG-13 I'll give it a chance.
