$2.05M FRI for #Scream kicking off its 3rd wknd. Look for $6-7M this wknd pushing 17-day #boxoffice cume to $61-62M. Final domestic gross for #ScreamMovie will end at 3x its $24M budget.

This new one wasn’t bad but it just didn’t quite capture the same energy as the other ones and it felt like a generic retread.

How is it doing globally tho? Hardly anyone is talking about Scream outside of the us. I think it has a very American vibe that is not resonating as well as previous movies did with international audiences

It’s doing ok should grab another 5 mill this weekend to make it 25million so all together it will probably round out around 30million international , 70mil domestic for a 100 mill or close to 100m WW not to bad given the circumstances it was under during a peak covid wave and lockdowns.

A weird thing I noticed is scream 4s international box office was pretty good with 60million while Scream 5s international box office is on the lower end with just 20million so far. It’s the domestic box office holding scream 5 up this time instead of the other way around

That's why I asked because Scream has always been huge outside the us but this time no one is talking about it. It's really flying under the radar which makes the hype just the more absurd to me.

I remember the theatre was packed for scream 4 and it wasn't even a premiere showing but probably second week as I remember I had a car crash on my way to the theatre the first day it was out.

This time I went for a first weekend viewing in a big theatre and we were like 20 poeple and not many cinemas are showing the movie. Seems like EU markets have been very cold to this movie and I agree.

It's made $33.6 mil internationally so far according to Mojo - https://www.boxofficemojo.com/release/rl307200769/ Still less than previous movies but you have to factor Covid into that, a lot of international territories have strict restrictions still in place thanks to Omicron so it's taking a hit because of that.

Scream will be OK, they've already reached success and are still going.

Will they announce a sequel soon or will it take another decade for them to release one?

A sequel should be announced within the next few months wouldn’t be surprised if it starts filming towards the end of the year for a late 2023 release

I'd be impressed if they got another movie out that quick, although on the other hand it's kind of baffling why they took so long between the last few movies.

Scream 4 didn’t deliver the BO returns they were expecting at the time the 40million dollar budget probably didn’t help here. Plus I think there was a rights issue after the whole Weinstein company going down for reasons everyone knows probably led to the franchise being up for sale to other studios and that stuff always takes time.

I suspect radio silence had some plans for a 2nd and 3rd film while writing scream 22 as a backup should this one take off paramount bought this franchise I doubt they’d let it sit around for too long as they kept calling this a franchise relaunch

Hearing from a lot of twitter stans that their local theatres are removing it this weekend. Yikes.

My theatre is big so it will still have it playing this weekend, on two smaller screens though.

So is a $72M domestic total (what it will prob finish with) for a January release of a 4th sequel a hit or not?

When I watched Scream I remember liking all of the characters and the reveal was mind-blowing. Like how sick was
[Show spoiler]Billy for murdering Sidney’s mother and is now about to kill her and her father. And Lillard made Stu a combination of hilarious and skin-crawlingly creepy. Spitting everywhere with that demonic face - dude had a head full of bad wiring.
It was witty, clever and messed up.

5cream didn’t have nearly the same writing and directorial skill. I didn’t warm to the new characters, I didn’t care who died, the reveals didn’t have any potency. And where were the legendary nail-biting chase scenes? The only thing I came away with was sadness that
[Show spoiler]Dewey was now dead which gave way to annoyance that he was offed so unceremoniously in a very weak sequel.

I liked all the new characters in Scream 4, even the six we saw for a few minutes in the crazy opening sequence (which was also mad, shocking and hilarious), and Kirby was as awesome as Sidney! Craven and Williamson were rare talents who were having buckets of fun. Gillett, Bettinelli-Olpin and the writer of Independence Day: Resurgence? Not so much.

Pains me to say this but I can’t bring myself to consider 5cream canon, and I have a feeling it’s going to age very badly.

God the main girl who played "Sam" is a terrible actress. I got second-hand embarrassment for her in every scene where she interacted with a superior actor.

I would argue it was quite ceremonial
