EDIT; Sorry, I missed the first part of your question, as you implied only about the 5-disc DVD collector's edition. There is also a Blu-ray version of that set as well, also long since out-of-print.

I've found only the 5-disc DVD release (second hand of course), here in Europe it's impossible to find the BD release (at least, i didn't found it). Besides the picture quality, are there more extra features on the BD release compared to the DVD one?

Go back and read my post. I stated I liked the process and the fact that it makes companies up their game. "Limited" is based on supply and demand. It is high time that people stop believing items will always be there.

What they choose to label it is their call.

I think light up trap boxes are a given to be limited. Even if not called limited do people seriouslt think a Nakatomi Tower from Die Hard was going to keep being made?

That makes no sense, they usually don’t want you to refund the item and just give you a credit cause they don’t want to keep it in their warehouse. I’d bump that shit to management.

Got home last night and unpacked the copy I got from Amazon in the sad plastic bag.

Surprisingly zero damage. It looks like it came from their distro center like 7 miles from my house so I think I just got lucky and it wasn't at the bottom of the pile or tossed on the door step. Lights works... discs seem to be correct... pretty happy overall.

Glad they put all the discs in slips inside the case because it looks clean as heck when you open it up. Will likely watch this weekend as I was on babysitting duty last night with my wife in night school for her masters.

You pretty much did when you replied to scarcity issues with "I love that they are doing this. Supply and demand baby!".... while being thrilled that demand exceeds supply. Not really what that phrase really targets, but, ok.

"Limited" is based on supply and demand. It is high time that people stop believing items will always be there.

That doesn't make any sense. You have to believe that the goal of a company is to intentionally make less money by producing less than they can sell at a given price.

Great example. A set that was marketed as a limited edition and was available for a long time, sometimes even heavily discounted. So, no, nobody thought it was going to be around for a long time and everyone who wanted it had a REALLY long window to get it.

I've got 2 4K discs of Ghostbusters and no 4K disc of Ghostbusters II. Did anyone get an extra Ghostbusters II 4K disc in their set and no Ghostbusters 4K disc? Cause I'm willing to swap. After reading about all of the horseshit Amazon is pulling in regards to returns/refunds of this set, I'm willing to help someone else out if I can. My box is damaged, too, and it looks like I shouldn't even bother trying to get compensated for that. What a shitshow, BTW. Damaged boxes and incorrect discs with no likely recourse for compensation due to the limited nature of the set? Sony couldn't have handled this any worse.

That was my point. I said the plan was always to release this Ultimate pack for the hardcore fans. Not releasing stand alone or 2 pack Dolby is what doesn't make sense. Sometime later, a Spider-man Trilogy 4K starts to show up with virtually ZERO information about it. Based on Karate Kid and Ghostbusters Dolby, a lot of people figured this had to be Spider-man Dolby. We later find out that it's just the HDR10 discs.

So, is this Sony starting to balk again on Dolby because they are losing money? Did Karate Kid not get the nostalgia sales that they expected? Did they get cold feet on the Ghostbusters franchise based on 2016 and Afterlife?

Again, all speculation. Also to your point about how they have released many Ghostbusters with different special features, same disc, different blu same 4K, etc. Makes me wonder again, why pay to produce the 2 Dolby discs when they could have just slapped the HDR10 discs in the Ultimate pack? Clearly it would have still sold out.

Prime. I can return endless amounts of shit for free if Amazon decides to package it like crap and it gets damaged. The warehouse is also so close to my house that it's barely in transit anyway (I get a shipping notification and my package arrives 2-3 hours later) so the risk of stuff getting damaged is significantly diminished. I was also able to get a pretty cheap price locked in during pre-order and well, if it arrived damaged and it had sold out - which it hasn't yet on Amazon.ca - I would just pick it up at my local shop where they have loads of copies. I probably would've paid $20 more for it but I wouldn't have been shit out of luck if my Amazon copy got mangled.

My Amazon order was basically a placeholder and it miraculously arrived mint so it worked out this time.

Do I expect lighted boxes to be limited? Yes. Do I expect extras to be? No, they shouldn't be. Lighted boxes cost a lot of money to manufacture. Once the extras are produced, they're paid for, and costs nothing extra going forward other than pressing more discs.

In other news, all the posts about wrong discs made me go check my set and thankfully I have all the discs. Hopefully I'm allowed to feel happy about this.

I hope everyone who got wrong discs is able to find someone to trade with though, probably be the best solution since I don't see stores doing anything besides a return or partial refund. Maybe Sony will do something but that could take a while.
