By all means, please post your music opinions here too. I bet it's filled with love for D-tier efforts by mainstream artists too.

Nolan's Trilogy is the gold standard for superhero movies. I just think Wally Phishter sucks. By the time he shot Rises you could tell he had completely lost interest in his dp gig.

And then he made Transcendence and we all had a good laugh.

A lot of the Nolan bashing comes from mocking the Cult like mentality Nolan fans have on here. There are people that genuinely hate him though.

Oh no. Not missing anything at all. It’s half baked ideas from other Sci Fi films and books. Also, it looked bad. I know Pfister shot in film and is this huge advocate for film, but I think is a bad representative of shooting on film.

It's also shockingly boring because Pfister apparently never learned anything about storytelling.

Makes sense when working with Nolan for so long.
[Show spoiler]That dig is dedicated to DVR.

I just looked him up on IMDb and his career has stalled. Maybe he should’ve stayed as a cinematographer.

"How do you screw up a Johnny Depp vehicle?!"
-Movie Executive

"Movie stars are a myth designed by people who are looking for easy explanations about the success and failure of certain movies?"
-Wally Pfister

"Throw him into the volcano."

He's had such a great career after it with...

-episodes of serious comedy with Will Arnett called Flaked
-episodes of new live action The Tick
-a Taco Bell commercial

I guess those Nolan film residuals pay for everything else in life.

I actually like The Tick show, but he did two episodes.

How do you walk away from your craft right when you've gained access to all the toys you could ever want? I dunno. Seems like he was seriously burnt out and lost the juice.

I think he made a boring movie no one liked that lost money, and he's been getting small amounts of work in television ever since because no one will trust him with a feature film budget for at least another a few years.

It also should be a sign that some people belong where they excel.

I've listened to lots of hours of the Deakins podcast. There's no way I would trust him to direct a film.
Thankfully he knows he's a wizard at what he does and he keeps doing it.

If I'm getting this right: he walked away from dp work to focus on his directing career. He then laid an egg with Transcendence and the only place he could resume directing is for smaller TV shows and Taco Bell commercials.

Sounds like a stubborn dude.

That's the thing. I think if Deakins struck out at the directors plate he would still have all the best directors lining up to work with him. It seems that isn't the case for Pfister.

Very possible. I know he said Kilmer was the best something. Either Bruce Wayne or Batman. Can't remember which one.
