Sitting down to watch these tomorrow. Would like to get through them all unless Fury 4K gets delivered.

Also, as I wrote last night, I think the grain/noise/whatever on the BD helps the movie in multiple ways, like with blending the CG into the scene or with covering for how processed it looks. I am a grain lover though, admittedly.

Also while the HDR looked very nice and added a lot of depth I also thought there were spots where it looked odd. I mentioned the Lex and Tim in the kitchen scene last night. On the BD the kitchen looks bright when they arrive, then they turn the lights off and it gets dark. On the UHD it looks dark when they arrive and barely changes when they turn off the lights. It stood out to me right away as odd before I even put the BD in for comparison. The HDR in general, while adding a lot of depth, also contributed to an "off" look I thought in some scenes. Not to get into the color thing but I do think the movie looks slightly too cool in temp, which adds to this "off" look for me.

All in all it's a total mixed bag for me and I'm seriously not sure which disc I would default to next time. Jurassic World looks amazing but the BD looks amazing too, and supposedly JP3 looks the worst, so suddenly you're staring down a less and less valuable $50 payment. I'm just saying I get why some are hesitant.

I'll be watching Lost World tonight and hopefully have more clear enthusiasm afterward.
Well in that sense I agree with you, JP1 on UHD loos sometimes like movie shot on digital camera rather than 32mm film. If would also prefer intact grain structure, but I still like how UHD transfer looks after all and there's no question in my mind which version will be my preferred one

The CG stuff really does look terrible on the UHD of JP1, and I didn't need no capsaholic comparison to tell me that. At least on the 2D and 3D Blu-rays the overall 'look' is consistent; one is grainy/noisy as hell and the other is smudged to shit, but in both instances the CG shots don't appear to stand out from the shots around them because they've been subjected to the same treatment.

But on the UHD whatever processing Universal has wrought on the movie has hurt the CG shots even more than the 1st gen material, smudging out whatever detail was left and the amount of ringing is horrible. Whatever some people may think of the UHD's "grain management" and how good it looks to them, I cannot fathom how the CG shots have been improved by this processing in any way, shape or form and it speaks volumes as to how badly handled this 4K release has been.

I do wish more people would actually watch Lost World though, I wanna hear some more thoughts on that one.

OK guys, so what's the consensus here?

Jurassic World is a modern movie and the UHD comes from a 2.4K DI so it's not that surprising it looks absolutely stunning (well, maybe the fact it doesn't ended like Oblivion is a surprise after all...), but what about the Trilogy? Do we believe Universal did a new 4K scans of OCNs?

Even with The Lost World looking really great - I don't believe it at all. OK, maybe TLW is indeed from 4K scan, but the question is: why it looks like they truly cared about just one from the three films, and not even about the most beloved one?

As for the set itself, my BB steels are perfect save for the 4K case not sealing shut (seen that others are dealing with this too). Not a huge deal since it's just going in the slip anyway.
DO NOT EXCHANGE!!! This is a very poor steel book collection! I exchanged mine and I ended up getting steel books in worse conditions.

I’m starting to think I should have just bought the 3D JP1 for ten bucks and called it a day...

It does seem like a pretty poor deal, grasshopper. 2 lovely transfers and 2 smudgy bodge jobs.

No need to imagine bruh

Something along these lines, in a somehow much sharper full 4K HDR glory.

One day..

It's not so much the deal (or even the quality) as it is the movies. I keep buying The Lost World - VHS, DVD, Blu-ray. It's okay - there is some great stuff in there (and an equal amount of shite) but I have to slap myself in the face and say "What the f*** are you doing man!? You don't even really like the movie! Stop (re)buy-ing it, moron!"

I'll always re-buy JP1 though . I was eight when I saw that in the cinema opening week. That's not something you ever forget. It's seared into my soul.

This one is so lovely it almost makes me wanna weep. Can any of our resident 4K cappers match this one to the UHD?

Some of those shots are promotional material derived from the new 4K scan when Uni were shilling the 3D re-release, VickPS posted them earlier in the thread.

Some are JP3D promo screenshots, touched up to match some printed references, and the others are ILM renders.

Those CAH shots are atrocious. People dogged titles thst show little to no improvement over the BDs, but this one, while looking like an upgrade, still looks like a Universal catalog release in VC1 from 2006 using a DVD era master.

Some people are just impossible to please, regardless how good or bad a blu-ray or an UHD movie look. If a movie looks absolutely gorgeous, a person who is fastidious or anal retentive, will image and find something wrong with it. You can't please everybody!

This set appears to be a pitiful excuse for a UHD release and I guess I will continue not owning these films. A loss.

I picked up a Spielberg UHD today and instead of this it was THE POST.
