I guess. Maybe I didn't give it a fair shot. I was just expecting something a little more in depth and not as perfunctory. Tell you what, I'll watch it again to see if I need to reevaluate.

How do you say 'Federico Fellini' in Italian?

That would be cool...

It's not significantly different, but maybe some of the cover stagnation will be fixed.

Have you seen what they did with Chaplin?

Charlie Chaplin's Modern Times
A film by Charles Chaplin for The Great Dictator

I don't necessarily like that, so maybe stick with one style for the director.

Criterion maybe could use descriptive words on some of their covers. For example for Diabolique: A thriller from Henri-Georges Clouzet. Of course maybe the cover is self explanatory, but some aren't.

I don't know, the new covers must not be that good if I'm discussing this.

Here it is.

Thanks jcs! I'm certainly intrigued after watching that trailer...even in German!

C'mon guys, this is a very silly argument.

On another note, I wish you could buy Breathless in a plastic case...

I certainly give you credit for that! I think everyone has gone into a film expecting one thing and getting another, leading to some disappointment.

Has anyone here seen Black Moon?

I like the films I've seen by Malle (Au Revoir, Lucien, Murmur, Elevator,Atlantic City, etc) but this doesn't seem to be one of his most revered films.

Granted, Criterion will get many blind buyers because of the artwork and possibility of it being a digipack release.

I'll be a "blind-buyer" on this one.... for reasons I think I've stated ad nauseum at this point, but I would hate to think people are going to spend the average Criterion-pricing for a certain style case, and artwork

EDIT:

Damn.... I need to break out the snow-shovel again

Isn't Fear and Loathing one cover that does not list a director's name? I don't remember seeing it.

Oh, I thought we were just commenting on the names on the cover, not how they're "introduced."

Ohio...it was 50 degrees 3 days ago. Makes me wish I didn't have to work because I really want to watch a few of my Criterions today...it's the perfect day for it! Maybe give The Thin Red Line a view, I've been curious to finally watch it for it's PQ & AQ.

I may have to do that to get to the Cine this weekend. Although I don't think John Ewing will appreciate intermittent coughing throughout the films (noises and mobile devices are frowned upon. I suspect the woman who answered her phone during the show never came back ).

Shell, that may be the reason why they brought it out of hiding. I have never seen it, but it may be the 'gem' of his creations. You never know and that is the beauty of Criterion at times, IMO.
