I loved this game and I'm hoping for a PS5 patch that will give me an excuse to revisit it. I think it's not very gamey and that puts people off. It's a ploddy game but I just loved the world, the attention to detail, stumbling upon all sorts of stories and events; just the overall immersiveness of it. I did find everything quite slow at first, in terms of both story and controls, but after a few hours I adjusted to the rhythms of the game and completely fell in love with it. This and Witcher 3 were my favourite games of last gen for pretty much the same reason; immersive, detailed worlds filled with great characters and great storytelling on a micro and macro scale. Many argue that both games leave a fair bit to be desired in terms of controls and combat.
I know a lot of people feel similarly to myself. I have several friends who have clocked far more hours than me but are not near the end of the story. They just enjoy riding about the world and fishing and hunting. I agree that the mission structure could do with embracing the open world design a bit more. The missions are mostly great but it does feel like a missed opportunity to have the majority of the missions be more or less on rails. I appreciate what Rockstar were going for though and the approach they took certainly wasn't one of laziness. An immense amount of effort clearly went into each mission. |

I like the realism. This game might be the most authentic way to experience the Old West compared to any other media. In fact, one of the few issues that I have with this game is that some aspects of it are not realistic at all.
For example, in real life, horses are smart enough not to run directly into trees or off cliffs... ![]() |

If we wanted realism, then why do you have slow motion, bullet time, or focus? If we wanted realism, then why do you have split screen, subtitles, and band-aids fixing major health issues? That doesn’t happen in real life If we wanted realism then why do you have a musical score accompanying what’s happening? That doesn’t happen when I go into the basement. If we wanted realism you should not be able to respawn or reload at checkpoints after you die. If we wanted realism then we should have our characters doing their taxes, getting changed in real time, brushing their teeth and wiping their ass. |

Immersion is possibly the most important aspect of a video game, and I think that this game's realism adds to rather than detracts from its overall immersion. |

I like InLikeFlynn’s reply because he backed up WHY he enjoys it and what he likes about it. I’m trying to convince myself not to sell it. Maybe you can help persuade me to keep it Coming in here and writing, “this is one of the best games I’ve ever played“ is no different than trolling and going into a thread and writing, “this movie sucks” and then leaving. No explanation why? So what’s the difference? If something is good, write why. If something is bad, explain why. Last edited by eiknarf; 03-28-2022 at 11:58 AM. |

Played through and completed three times. (once on PS4, twice PC). Love it. Probably beating a dead horse (no pun intended), but I'd really wish rockstar would think about DLC for single player. RD2 online, just couldn't get into, and hearing lot of folks say it's a frustrating experience. With this engine, and capabilities, I would love to see it.
Heck, maybe a RD1 remake would be great as well.... Last edited by FubarFrenzy; 04-03-2022 at 03:25 AM. |

Something (unintended) funny is bound to happen when you play for over 10 hours straight...

The attention to details in the natural wilderness for RDR2 is impressive going through this game again on PS4. The water is some of the best rapids and streams visually and for sound that I've seen in a video game. This would be a game worth exploring in 4K clarity for the amazing visuals and scenery.
It seems like that for awhile now that Rockstar eliminated entirely the servers for the online RDR2. Had this game been online only, say goodbye for it on PS4 like many other online only games that expired and unplayable. But the blip on the radar was the remaster of GTAV PS5 for those interested. I skipped it unless it would be $1.99, then I'd buy it. The PS4 version is good enough as I don't play it much. Quote:
They should have programmed that out of the game unless these are suicidal horses, but I guess that trick of not steering is good enough. |

This game logic is so strange. Convict in striped prison uniform asks for help. I hogtie him to bring him to the law. Stranger witnesses me "kidnapping" him. I kill him. Then another witness, then another, and pretty soon it's that scene from Mulholland Drive. Think I killed four witnesses, out in the empty plains.

[Show spoiler] I got an ultra wide monitor three days ago and am now discovering how support is handled in different games while trying not to become one of the annoying ultra wide elitist complainers I talked crap about. The game has ultra wide built in and the cutscenes are in a 21:9 ratio, but the idiot designers kept the black bars at the top and bottom as if played on a widescreen TV. Black bars used to differentiate between gameplay and cutscenes has been a staple of video games forever, but I really don't think it's necessary in most cases. https://steamcommunity.com/app/11741...0686417123275/ "I'd kinda like to remove the side borders with cinematic mode, but with cutscenes I get why they're there. Like with a lot of scripted stuff, there's probably things you're not supposed to see past the camera. Haven't used the FOV mod, so not sure if this is definitely the case or not." Things you're not supposed to see? No, fool, the cutscenes are already ultra wide. The person after him recommends a mod that removes the pillar boxes and letterboxes, but that's not a fix. That just creates more of a fish eye effect where the subjects are in the center and surrounded by vast empty space. https://community.pcgamingwiki.com/f...nitor-fov-mod/ |

After 38 hours, I still have no idea how Red Dead Redemption 2 wants me to handle gunfights. Feels like moving with ball and chain on the character's ankles. I sluggishly proceeded with right mouse button pressed and camera wobbling over the shoulder and then one of Arthur Morgan's partners lightly busted through the other side of the store and immediately shot dead two standing on opposite sides of him. I've played fewer games with more of this disconnect. The evasion options are also shit.
I love Tony Soprano, but the character ruined everything. Far too many antiheroes followed, the majority of their writers not understanding that fine line and just making ugly unlikable *******s. |

A shipwreck after the big bank heist? Do you know how random a shipwreck is? Does Rockstar think every third ship back then sank? This story is just plodding along randomly. Also, why are you making me hold W to walk forward? Just make it a cutscene instead of using this fake, lame middle.
![]() In the bank heist, they had me unlock another safe by slowly moving the mouse left and right, but it automically clicked at each correct number called out by the other character, so there was no point in making that interactive either. Everything is so fake. |

Prison island, so late in Red Dead 2, was the first gunfight that I rather enjoyed. Music was decent, checkpoints were few, having to retreat in the open meant that it wasn't so much about sticking to cover again and for the first time I had to figure out my recovery items (That just chugging down tons of food doesn't help.) and use explosives, after the game was so piss-easy before that I could get through each of the frequent checkpoints with few, if any, retries, using brute force. Doesn't alleviate the movement being crappy, though. I never use Dead Eye (slow motion) because it's easy mode in an already easy game.
