sick list!

I've seen 64/100 (bolded in spoiler)

The Artist and Total Recall were genius picks. I need to revise my list

Liked all except District 9. I enjoyed, but not crazy about, Children of Men (
[Show spoiler]still can't figure out the connection between infertility somehow causing massive migration/overcrowding to Britain, and hence strict illegal immigration enforcement. the two (infertility, overcrowding) seem completely detached, yet the film tries to link them. I know you guys tried to explain this to me and you probably did, but I'm a bit dense at times
) and Reservoir Dogs (
[Show spoiler]good film but the plot didn't have the teeth of a Pulp Fiction or a Kill Bill for me. when the Tarantino gratituous violence, rather than the plot, becomes the basic mechanism of the film, I'm not super engaged
)

Thanks. Actually, I think many of them I saw as a result of all the polls you did, so thanks!

Yeah, The New World is definietly a polarizing one. As we all know, Malick employs this whispering narrative voiceover to evoke emotion in the viewer. Its SO BLACK OR WHITE - either you LOVE IT or LOATHE IT. There is literally no in between with it

I bought it, watched it, hated it, traded it in.

I didn't like Hiroshima Mon Amour either.

I think with Children of Men,
[Show spoiler]it's shows a video on a train explaining that all the other countries have fallen apart due to overwhelming debt and Britain is the only country left standing, so everyone is trying to migrate there, but it's been a while since I watched it

Also, with Reservoir Dogs, I like it more for the characters and dialogue over the storyline, the film keeps very minimalistic and is carried by the actors and the humour they generate through their characters, over the situations they're placed in. Plus I can't not give a place for my favorite film

With slight mention of Britian...

The Pirates! Band of Misfits

It's been too long since we had a good Aardman animation (that Christmas one was a lie!)

The Pirates, is of course filled to the brim with sly British wit and charm (it starts off with two jokes that will go straight over the heads of American audiences) but it also features various odd science jokes, pirate jokes, some strange forth wall breaking jokes, a dib and a dab of slapstick and pop culture and it probably hits 90-95% of the time Although it never had me in complete hysterics, but I smiled thoroughly throughout it all

The characters are also quirky and over the top as you'd come to expect, with none of them actually having names, the main characters, is simply called Pirate Captain, and most the supporting characters are referred to as "The Pirate who like sunsets and kittens" and "The Pirate who is strangely curvaceous". The voice actors also portraying the characters also fantastic, I didn't recognise Hugh Grant as the Pirate Captain, nor did I realise David Tennant played Charles Darwin (I did however, notice Brian Blessed was playing Pirate King, but you can never not tell when Brian Blessed is in the room)

I like the art style, the trademark stop motion animation, along with some charming 2D animation, the occasional CG effects where essential to the film, but a tad distracting.

My only two problems I have with the film is the fact that it blatantly steals a song from Flight of the Concords (and doesn't even seem to realise it) and the ending starts to run out of fuel and runs off fumes till the fact where it just feels like it cuts off, it's not an anti-climax, but it just felt like it needed another minute to wrap up completely. Also, the ending doesn't feel so dissimilar to another Aardman animated film (You'd understand if you saw it)

With Chicken Run in mind, it isn't as good as that film, Chicken Run is more mature in it's ideas and delivery, while this just feels suitable to any audience with a little bit of pandering. Nevertheless, The Pirates is just plain great fun, it's better than the Wallace and Gromit film and Flushed Away at the very least, it's just one hell of a charming film

8.5/10

As far as Love Actually, I guess it was ok, but to be honest I think I'm biased because it was my ex's favorite film and admitting it was good is too hard for my ego Honestly, if I watched it tonight, I might give it 3.5 or 4 stars.
Gotcha. Fair enough.

I plan to watch that again someday. It felt too dry and deliberate in its effort to be clever. I think it MAY have been my mood that day, so I told myslef to give it another shot someday.

I hated both as well. Not because my personal taste didnt allow me to enjoy them, but because they are objectively confirmed trash. Right down there with Breathless.
