Deep Discount was still the best when I was able to use a coupon. Got it for $64 with tax and their $2.99 shipping charge for being a heavier item. I know Amazon has it for $69.99 plus sales tax, so that'll be closer to $80 depending where you're at.

At the time, she wrote back to me and said that her office was closed due to the pandemic and that she would help when it was re-opened. I wrote back to her two more times about a month apart each to see if there was any estimate as to when I might get a replacement. I got the same answer each time. I last wrote to her in August and she said that she would send me a replacement as soon as they re-opened. I thought I was basically being told to go away and I gave up any hope of ever getting a replacement as month after month went by and nothing came.

My replacement arrived today! She actually remembered my request three months after I last wrote to her and five months after I had first written to her. If only such customer service was commonplace and not the exception!
Defective discs seem like a weekly occurrence these days. Mark one in the win column for digital there.

The defective DVD in question was a "flipper" disc and these have a particularly bad record for longevity.

The replacement came on two DVDs.

The Psycho 4K disc lacks the original mono audio track (it has a down mixed mono audio track instead) and that has nothing to do with the performance or longevity of the 4K disc format itself. It's just stupidity on the part of Universal to make the same mistake twice when their replacement disc still lacks the original mono audio track.

The discs themselves play fine; Universal simply failed to include something- twice.

You are talking about a format that requires a new smart tv to enjoy some of the latest updated apps on certain models. I don’t think a defective batch of discs holds a candle to that.

I’ll take problematic disc encodes over craptastic compressed to the Absolute Max undownloadable permission to watch someone else’s copy.

But, I understand this is a personal choice that for the now we all have. I actually do both disc and steaming but I know what I prefer and which one is technically superior.

Either way, it’s all digital. Can we stop calling steaming digital ? The discs have been all digital since DVD.

So it’s all digital and just a matter if you want lossless audio and less video compression and if you want your own copy or the “ok” to watch some one else’s copy if it’s available.

agree plus the occasional bad disk over your whole or part of your collection disappearing or the app on your device not being supported any more so you can't watch until the device gets replaced.

The results of DEG marketing. Many years ago at AVS I would refer to streaming as IPTV but almost no one knew what I was talking about. At work that was the term we used for any digitized A/V to or from the internet. By the early 90's we were all D-2 format (recording, routing, distribution, monitoring, etc.). I also dislike the term 4K to describe 3840 video, it should called UHD. 4K should be used for 4096 video.

Quote:
The term IPTV first appeared in 1995 with the founding of Precept Software by Judith Estrin and Bill Carrico. Precept developed an Internet video product named IP/TV. IP/TV was an Mbone compatible Windows and Unix-based application that transmitted single and multi-source audio and video traffic, ranging from low to DVD quality, using both unicast and IP multicast Real-time Transport Protocol (RTP) and Real time control protocol (RTCP). The software was written primarily by Steve Casner, Karl Auerbach, and Cha Chee Kuan. Precept was acquired by Cisco Systems in 1998.[7] Cisco retains the IP/TV trademark.
Early LaserDisc A/V was stored on disc as analog (FM carrier) but by 1985 digital audio was added. Later Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1 audio was also added.

The Great Wall has one of the better Atmos (immersive audio ) tracks. Hope you enjoy it.

The problem is that when you say that "it's all digital" it reinforces one of our member's misconception that all digital files are therefore equal in quality.

Come on Vilya give me a break! Just like all Disc Files are not equal, Streaming Files are not equal. They all come from the same DI, so the Studio controls the File size and Quality depending on the Streaming Providers capabilities!
