No birds all over the thing promoting one film of 14. I don't need all the poster cards, wardrobe pics, storyboard, etc. It's fluff that I'll look at once. I have many books that have the same stuff anyway.

That said, I may double dip at a later date if the price drops a lot, only because I love Hitchcock.
Fair enough. I like having big sets for deserving titles. Yes they take up space but this thing is going to look beautiful on the shelf. I also like the birds all over the packaging. Yeah its only for one of the films but it adds something to the look. Can't think of the proper word but I love it.

I guess it's good that they have multiple versions of the set so we can all get what kind we like. However, my question for you is, if you may double dip down the line won't that just create less space on your shelf? Why not just go with this right off?

lol too funny....sorry haven't been on here in a bit. It looks really weird to me. I think that the bigger set looks much classier and elegant. Something I would like to display. It just all around irks me it looks strange. Not to mention all I can think of when I see it is an old norm McDonald skit from a Dennis Miller special. And yes I am in the gutter as I use the word quite often just like the other major C word. Plus the price was a huge draw for me and financially it works better for me. I can get all the movies I want on the 25th and get this set the following week. Between this bond 50 and Indy and other notable releases it is a pretty rough September.

The biggest reason is that the U.S. set is free as I have a lot of Amazon U.S. credit saved up. Like many of us this year is getting expensive! This, Bond, Indy, etc.

Also, I like the smaller design that fits better with my other Hitchcock blus. Plus the similar U.K. is likely a digistack, which I find cheapish and with the amount of times I'll open the case it'll probably fall apart in a few years. So, I'll pay a higher cost for the U.S., but it'll pay off in the long run. That said, I MAY someday buy the larger U.K. box - if the price is right. Probably not, though.

I did this with the Kubrick set last year..got the U.S. set (even though I owned all the individual titles), liked it, sold it, got the U.K. as it was cheap, sold it, bought the U.S. set again when it was a gold box good price. Then I sold my individual titles and am now keeping the box and collecting the digibooks as they come out.

So I'll probably buy some individual Hitchcock titles as they come out if they're in digibooks, because they're cool and collectible.

I decided to put my Hitchcock dvd box set up to sell on facebook but forgot to get a price. Someone I hardly know apparently doesn't own any of his movies but loves watching them whenever they're on tv, so she got really excited and offered me $100 for it, thinking that was a good price. I didn't have the heart to say no. For my own sake of course. Hey, if it was someone I knew I would of given it to them for a mere fraction of what that girl payed, but what with SO DAMN MUCH great stuff coming out towards the end of this year, my wallet simply can't afford to be the good guy.
The hitchcock blu-ray box set is costing me about $130 shipped so I'm only really forking out $30 to upgrade.

She's happy, I'm very happy. Win Win.

Doesn't get much better than that mate. Feels great to sell old things off and get the new stuff cheaper.

Will this movie be included in the set:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2132485/

I'm thinking, probably not!
Wow, didn't know Alfie had such questionable character!

I saw Marnie at the cinema last night. Not sure if it was the restored version or not but the film looked stunning! Can't wait to see what treatment the rest of the films have been given.

No. It'll be aired on the BBC this autumn. No doubt it'll turn up in the US on BBC America or something?
Here's an article from today's Telegraph about it:

Really? I think it's not expensive at all. Look what you're getting, if these movies would be sold separately for £8 each then you'd still pay more for the lot than the cost of the box with all the extras.

But if you only bought the good movies from the set you'd be saving a pretty penny. This isn't a "masterpiece" collection, it's just a collection of what one studio owns. If the studios had pooled together it could very well have been a masterpiece collection, but as it stands i'm with Nielsb90, just aint worth the asking price.

Not saying its bad value but I'm in no rush so I might as well just wait a few months.. I'm guessing it will eventually hit the 50-60 pound mark

It's Hitchcock. If you only bought the good movies, you'd still be buying them all.

When you say good, you just mean the popular ones, right?

Even if one considers only half of those films as great achievements and masterpieces in cinema we are still getting, I think, a fair deal considering all the extra material we are getting with each film and the way they are presented (comparing this for instance to the lawrence of arabia special edition).

Even average Hitchcock is brilliant and interesting. I can't remember the exact details but one of his last US movies he directed from a car or a chair in a garage! It's on the DVD extras (he wasn't very well at the time).

See, that's my point. Loads of people are saying "I only want Vertigo/Psycho/The Birds". Like they're the only ones they've seen. If they bought the whole set, they'd realise that while they might be the most famous/popular titles, they aren't his best.

Hitchcock's absolute worst is still better than most other director's best. Instead of saying "Blah, this is too expensive, I'll just wait for the single releases as I only want a couple". I wish they'd just take a chance and realise how utterly brilliant he is.

It really is a terrific feeling. Just seeing no alfred hitchcock box set on my shelf has me really excited to plop this big, gorgeous set in it's place.
