Finally finished this movie.I would have to agree this movie wasn't great for 3D.Maybe not so much the fault of the people doing the conversion. I just don't think there were enough clean scenes to make it 3d.Would I buy it again?probably not.

I owned the 2011 D8000 flagship Samsung LED and its conversion was okay. But now I own the dual core ES8000 Samsung LED in which the 3D has been improved on the whole (motion smoothing, etc) along with 2D-3D conversion which is now amazing

It is widely known as the best panel for 3D on the market (on AVS and other sites). And actually their 2D-3D conversion probably isn't all that different than JVC's conversion technology; which is a feature on some of their high end projectors, and the technology which this movie's conversion was based around

Having said all that. Don't take what I'm saying too literally and be like NO WAY NOT POSSIBLE. I get it, JVC's technology is likely a little better, especially if they are producing movies off it (and with a touch of a human element on converting their movies whether that involves 3-4 people or whatever) I'm just saying my remark wasn't too far off the base

For a first example, it's not bad what they've done with only 3 people (though I've seen much better layers from the work of one person https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=198636 ), but they need to amp things up a whole lot more before most of us are satisfied with the 3D. Right now, I Robot's 3D is on the weaker 3D level instead of very good to strong 3D.

Watched it yesterday.
What a big let down, a big disapoitement.
This is exactly what Fox must do If they want to ruin 3D experience to a big audience.
What a poor 3D.
Yes this is a 3D conversion.
But NOT as Sony's MIB III 3D Blu-ray conversion who has impressive 3D.
This I robot "3D" looks like a 2.5 2D Version.
There is some 3D effects during the movie. Yes only from time to time.
I put dow my glasses and was a lot of time surprise to see that I was able to see the movie witout glasses : no 3D.
So when there's 3D, 3D effects looks so bad...
This 3D Bu-ray looks like an old anaglyphic 3D...
I think there is even better anaglyphic 3D Blu-ray movie than this I Robot 3D Blu-ray (Journey To The Center Of The Earth for example).
I canceled my pre-order for the Limited Edition Sonny head box set.
Now I don't regret it.
It was so expensive for a plactic head only.
This 3D Blu-ray has absolute no interest for me.
There is even no Special features !
Only one making of and a commentary but on the DVD !
So If you already have the 2D Blu-ray with his amazing picture and sound : keep it !
If you think you will enhance your I Robot experience with this 3D Blu-ray forget it !
Keep your money for real 3D experiences like Avatar, Titanic, Samy's Big Adventure, Tangled, Tranformers Dark Side Of The Moon (saw this one this week : Wow This is pure 3D experience ! Amazing !) etc...
And - please - forget this I Robot let down 3D.
What a shame !

PS : This 3D Blu-ray reminds me the begining of Blu-ray in 2007.
Some of the first Blu-ray movies were 1080i / Mpeg 2 !!
They were just a HD conversion from DVD.
The result was so bad...
Some people were so disapointed with theses first Blu-ray they choosed to keep their DVD.
Yes "they" did it again with 3D this time.
Hey.. I rembered it Now....This was already Fox.

Seriously!

Why are people being so kind to this pile of dung!

It is by far the worse conversion ever done apart from Spy Kids 4 and Clash of the Titans!

It is a joke!

It is pretty bad, but I think it was worse because I was judging the technology. Now that I have seen it once, I think I would enjoy it more knowing what to expect. It has still become my preferred way to watch it.

It depends what you watch it on I guess. I have a projector and it was SHOCKINGLY bad on it. Much like I Robot it was full of instances where the foreground objects were surrounded by halos, that's how I judge something as a really bad conversion. The totally 3D rendered CGI scenes in SK4 looked ok, the rest of it looked terrible.

I never liked the film anyways so I only got it for the 3D. I've exchanged it already

The reviews and comments I've been reading have pretty much talked me into wanting to return this. Such a shame.

I just started this and I am stunned how flat the first scene is after the credits..

I hope this is not a bad sign as I am prepared to go into this open.

Not trying to sound rude here, but there is certainly no way that any in-built 2D to 3D software (in any TV set) can produce results that are on par with this. The simple fact that the JVC process begins with human artists rotoscoping the key frames (while the software fills in the blanks) should end that comparison immediately.

Having said that, yes, if you haven't tempered your expectations with this one, you're likely to be disappointed. It's certainly not on par with The Avengers, Titanic, Captain America, Abraham Lincoln, to name a few. It's at least on par with Ghost Rider 2 and Wrath Of The Titans IMO.

I just saw the preview on the Prometheus disc. This is by far the worst 3D I have seen. To put things in perspective, this is worse than Green Lantern.

He was talking about the I, Robot preview on the Prometheus disc, not Prometheus itself.

I haven't heard personally but not surprised at all, seemed like the most logical reason for the wavy rotoscoping - if you can link me to where you saw that I'd love to read up, I'm very interested in the technology behind, thanks .

I've finished the movie finally, I don't regret buying it in 3D and will watch the 3D version again next time we view the film. There is plenty of room for improvement but I still do not think it was the worst 3d of all times as some seem to be stressing. And you show me a TV that can auto-convert as well as this conversion and I'll show you the money because that would be amazing.

Wrath was a million times better and GR2 may have been flat but at least it wasn't full of halos and background blending with foreground objects.

Maybe because I watched it on a projector the non stop anomalies stuck out more, but it was terrible IMO.

I don't care how or who did what, it's shit and I won't be purchasing any more of their efforts & I highly doubt many other people will either unless they get their act together.

My comparison to Wrath was more in terms of errors - Wrath was chock full of them.

As stated previously, also viewing on a projector here - Optoma HD33.

I'd say that kind of comment is usually reserved for someone who's seen the entire product. The quality of 3D in those previews (on average) is worse than the sum of the entire film IMO.
