I'm sure a lot of people intentionally gave it zeros or low marks because of the political controversy around the film, which has occasionally flared up here in the thread too and which I've been struggling to avoid engaging in

Quite a few amazing movies have 7.~something on IMDB.

I think with certain movies they get rated lower because some just weren't going to enjoy the films for one reason or another -- in the case of Munich it is the political controversy, in the case of another good example -- Snowpiercer, it's because a lot of people weren't expecting a art-house sci-fi action film and were thereby disappointed.

Unfortunately the inmates have taken over the asylum at IMDb. I still rate from time to time, but I mainly use it as a "hey, I forgot that actor's or actress's name" tool. Hell, just reading some of the message boards will let you know exactly the type of "rational" thinking that's going on over there.

Rotten Tomatoes to me has been a much more reliable barometer of a film's critical and audience reception.

I totally missed the news of this finally coming out. It's been one of my 4-5 most wanted for a looooong time. So happy to finally get my hands on this again. Au revoir DVD copy.

Really an essential film that has become more and more relevant and perceptive with each passing year since 2005.

If you're on the fence about a blind buy you should take some time and read Roger Ebert or James Berardinelli's reviews.

The booklet included with the MUNICH SE DVD is not a reproduction of a pre-release press kit, it's a scaled-down reproduction of a promotional brochure included with copies of Variety during the film's Oscar campaign. Every page has a still and a glowing review of the film. You can see one of the original full-size brochures on eBay:

The mini version in the DVD set has a different cover, but the rest is the same.

Still, since the SEs of this and JARHEAD and THE TERMINAL all sold out almost immediately, I think it was just Universal intentionally producing them in exceedingly limited numbers, for some reason.

Its a good movie that's for sure but I picked up the DVD a few months back already. If my dad wants the DVD then ill upgrade to the BR if not ill just hang on to my DVD copy.
