You are lucky to get that strange days for 20 U.S Dollars. I tried to order and with the currency rate change it would end up costing 30, and for some reason thats a deal breaker for me. Same thing with the German Blu Ray of The Hitcher. But I am glad I waited because now there is what seems to be a much nicer new release of that one. I would hope that with the success of the CyberPunk 2077 game and books, that this would get a treatment in the U.S.A soon.

Don’t know how shipping rates to the US are, but maybe it’s cheaper for you from JPC?

It arrived today, but unfortunately would not play on my oppo blu ray player. I thought hitting the top menu button might have done the trick like my return of the living dead steelbook that was "region b". Region locked discs are stupid. I guess I will have to get a region free player at some point.

I bought my Oppo 203 in Germany with a region free hardware mod. Maybe there’s a shop in the US that can turn yours into region free versus buying a second machine. Once it’s done, you press the combination Dimmer 3x, Mute 1x and then 1 for Region A or 2 for Region B.

Every New Year. This and The Crying Game are the reasons I bought region-free players.

Weird that there's still no American release of this.

Not so weird, James Cameron controls it. Bigelow may not even care about this, she would probably have to set a fire under him and it would get released

Bigelow should care, it's just her best movie. Thank you Germans for releasing this on blu-ray, at least. I'm not sure if I want to see 4K if Cameron is in control of the mastering process.

I myself am watching U20 WC ice hockey tonight.

it's criminal this movie still doesn't have a proper release.
didn't know HBO no longer had the streaming rights, dvd is oop, no R1 BD...

guess I'll go on the journey to find the DVD, buy it and hopefully be the sacrifice necessary so it sees a 4K for its 30th anniversary!

Fortunately Universal owns the majority of international rights including Germany and Australia so i'm sure someone will come forward with another release, maybe a 4k from the usual suspects.

Watched. Damn when the fireworks in the film are going off all near the end and I hear fireworks outside it hits me in the feels. Amazing music, songs should have won every award that exists. Ralph Fiennes is a revelation in this. All the minidiscs make me sappy.

Universal may control certain overseas rights, but 20th Century (Disney) holds the negative in the US. Difficult to create a home video master without Disney's involvement.

Went to a screening of this at the Academy Museum tonight.

It was a 35mm release print.

Most everything else they screen lately is a DCP, usually a 4K DCP.

The fact that they screened a print (and not even a great looking one at that), and that the host thanked Disney for the print in the intro, suggests that there's still no video master existing other than the ancient ones circulating on the overseas BDs, which wouldn't be suitable for projection in a theater, or for a UHD or anything.

Wouldn't stop Turbine or someone from upscaling a UHD. I thought the Koch disc looked good, sound was good too, at least nothing was messed with in regards to the image.

Yep, I have the German BD (multiple editions of it, in fact) and it looks more than decent (and better than the release print screened yesterday), but it's a VERY old HD master.

The German disc looked good, was surprised how nice the DTS track was, way better than watching a DVD that's for sure
