It didn't feel like a recap to me, but I understand not buying the emotions. The wrinkle of being blamed for his mom's death I did like. But the complaint was answered in the show:

Lokis not a bad guy...he just felt like he needed to be one for most of his life.
The problem with that is I feel like Marvel is trying to sell some of these shows, specifically Wandavision and Loki, as something new and different.

Backstory and depth need to be actually interesting. Showing Loki scenes from other MCU movies is incredibly uninspired. I never bought into the Loki and Frigga stuff. I wanted to, I like both Tom Hiddleston and Rene Russo, but it just never worked.

I think that is ultimately a problem with the MCU in general. It gets great actors, but I feel like those great actors are never actually given the chance to show their actual talent. All they are able to do for the most part is elevate the material to a certain level.

Imagine if we got an Iron Man movie where Robert Downey Jr. was able to actually show the depth of his talent as an actor. And I won't entertain arguments about what he was able to do in Iron Man 3, Civil War, or Endgame. Those do not scratch the surface of his talent.

To me, this all has to do with how Kevin Feige reigns over the whole MCU. It just comes across as if there is just one voice. Occasionally one can see moments of there being other voices in the various projects, but ultimate they are smothered by Kevin Feige's vision.

An entertaining hour of exposition, but I think releasing the first two episodes would have been stronger if Episode 1 is going to be repeating large chunks of information that we already knew just to catch the audience (and Loki himself) up to his place in the MCU.

I don't think it was primarily a recap. Sure, it was nice to make sure everyone is on the same page as to exactly from where on the timeline this Loki is from, and remind us what he knows and doesn't know, but mainly it was
[Show spoiler]Mobius (Owen Wilson) systematically breaking down Loki. He asked all the right question to completely tear Loki down. It was like watching a master at work. I'm guessing the next episode will be more of trying to recondition Loki.

When something is going as well as the MCU is, a few will always want to find flaws and tell others it isn't as good as they think. For some, it can be an obsession. Not sure why they wouldn't focus more on something else they do like. They're like grinches.

Everything we see and do in our lives influences us. The art we make is a reflection of that. Some of the greatest movies of all time only exists because of what came before. It would be boring if everything subsisted in a vacuum.

I love the
[Show spoiler]60's look of the TVA. I also liked the humor when Loki questions if he is a robot or not. I see lots of references to all sorts of shows in the previous comments, and I see those too, but I also get a strange Overlook Hotel vibe from the place.

ANother home run by Marvel. I'm looking forward to the next epsisode and I hope to see more of the TVA in the MCU. I bet they show up in the next Doctor Strange fro sure.

Excelsior!

People are hoping for another Wandavision and are curious to see if Loki’s death is undone.

I've yet to see Umbrella Academy, but the Terry Gilliam's "Brazil" comparison is still spot on -- they even had a guy that wanted Loki to sign the receipts of everything he had ever said.

Granted, the average MCU has no idea who Terry Gilliam or what "Brazil" is.

Which itself was inspired from George Orwell's 1984 and bunch of movies that came before it like Metropolis and The House of Tomorrow(1949).

To each their own. I feel these shows feel unique and I enjoy that. Also disagree about Loki and his Frigga, but I never saw her as an important character either.

To your second point, we're not going to see Academy award winning performances because...well we don't need to. Bruce Willis isn't going to win for Die Hard, Arnold for Terminator, RDJ for Stark. It's not like he's asked to show his depth more than an ******* in Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, or Sherlock Holmes. Why should the standards be different in the MCU? Same goes for all the other amazing actors in the MCU.

Let's not get into the "one voice" argument of the MCU. There's a boss, and he let's the directors have their own take and vision. He just needs to make sure they're on the same path. How they get to the destination is something he doesn't need to control.

MCU movies vary in tone more than any other franchise I can think of, honestly, and definitely more than their only direct competitor, the DC universe. But at the end of the day you know it's all part of one concerted effort, and story strands tend to come together across movies in a way that many of us find satisfying.

By contrast, the DC movies struggle to find the right tone, as best illustrated with the original Justice League and the revision of the Zack cut. It's like there's no one supervising things.

I understand both ways of going about it. I like that we have options of Marvel movies and DC movies. That they have different themes and visions. That's awesome. Quality is quality and subjective, no need to comment on that.

I'm not sure why people think Marvel movies look and feel the same. We're at 20+ films and honestly at least 10 feel unique. *shrug*

Since everyone is entitled to their opinion...I agree with most of this gents.
Loki is going to be the American Pie of the MCU....nothing matters anymore because the Commission, whoops...I mean the TVA, can just change it. When they did this in Endgame, you could only hope that they were done with the oldest plot cliche' in the book (go back and change things).....nope, they were just getting started.

In case some of you don't know this...or care.... This is a public forum to discuss shows, movies, etc.
Some of you are just fine with that as long as the opinion is "we/I love this, and it can do no wrong"
Sad to say...not everyone feels the same.
You can call a differing opinion whatever you like....Im just calling out this travesty of an idea for a show for what it is...a huge mistake.
