I got it...it just popped in there....

Reitman is on record saying “for the fans” and stuff like that...so I’m thinking these 4 teens are fans of the ghostbusters and they try to go into business for themselves or at least experiment with making their own equipment and stuff like that. Maybe they’re the reason there’s an uptick in paranormal activity. Bring the old guys back as the youngins try to figure it out for themselves.

Look at fans all over the world who start their own teams and all the people that dress up like them.

We’ve all wanted to be a ghostbuster at some point in our lives.

Just because this movie will not technically acknowledge 2016 (within its runtime) doesn’t really mean anything. Remember they wanted to do a universe.

The reboot was not Dan’s idea exactly but he did mention a story before about other dimensions and we know multiverses are a popular thing nowadays.

A 2016 sequel or crossover is totally possible after this movie happens. They said the animated movie is still happening too. Whatever that’s like could be 3 separate universes.

Anyway I’m glad to see Dan has creative control. I’ve always trusted that he had good ideas for more. Even though people have actually criticized him for being stuck in the past. Saying Murray knows better.

They want the big bucks and hardcore fans? Convince Rick Moranis to return, and give him a dramatic entrance, preferably in the very final scene like this:

Have him show up at the final boss fight in full Ghostbusters gear and That would be more epic than Mark Hamill showing up at the the end of Force Awakens.

So the new Ghostbusters will have 4 kids - 2 girls and 2 boys, uncovering a supernatural mystery in a strange town. So basically Stranger Things/IT, but with Ghostbusters in the title. Not sure how I feel about this.

No. The difference between the original Ghostbusters and the most recent film is that in spite of the fantasy plot, the three main characters in the original were people that were easily relatable. Aside from their "jobs", they were like our funny friends and they were very human. The characters in the reboot were from outer space and were nothing like anyone any real people know. And it was a shame because it was a waste of talent.

I originally thought that all the negativity towards the reboot were just a bunch of sad fanboys, the same group who didn't want Rey being a main character in Star Wars or who were upset that John Boyega was cast. But then I watched the film and found it unwatchable. I really couldn't believe just how bad it was - aren't there producers or studio executives who manage the production if only because they'r risking so much studio money to release it?

It doesn't matter when the film is set (aside from the plot issues of putting it in the same universe as the original). What matters is whether it has an intelligent script with relatable but funny characters and brings something new to the equation so it's not just a rehash with the same plot points.

There's obviously a zillion ways it could relate to the original, but one scenario is that several friends move into the abandoned firehouse and accidentally release the ghosts. Maybe they also find the old car. They do research and figure out who the Ghostbusters were and they become the new Ghostbusters. Maybe once the ghosts are released they get a visit from one of the original characters. But there would have to be something beyond that to make it interesting and give a new film a reason to exist.

I’m open to any new storyline but I’ve always preferred something like the new Men in Black.

Ghostbusters Inc. Multiple branches of the company that have been in operation off-camera. Whatever the big threat is comes along and Ray, Winston, Peter help find the solution.

One request. Please can there not be a portal in the sky and the fate of the world not be stake? Leave that shit for Marvel. If the last act could not be a CGI mess ala DC movies that would be great too. Please and thank you

Originally I had zero interest in the reboot because that's what it was, a reboot. I didn't GAF about the all women gimmick and would have had the same reaction with an all male cast. Don't like reboots/remakes of classic 80s movies that don't need remaking anyway in general.

But then the trailer came out... oooh boy. Man did it look like everything wrong with modern comedy and then some. As funny as leprosy.

And then the filmmakers started coming out with their "anyone who doesn't like it is sexist" agenda, because they wrongly think that's a get out of jail free card to avert all criticism these days, and rightly earned nothing but contempt in return.

I like the idea of these teens finding a gate to Hell (An old idea for G3), they get suited and booted in poor Ghostbuster imitation costumes and get trapped. There parents recruit the retired ghostbusters to try and find the gate and rescue the teens.

Were they new to the franchise? That would be a good excuse. On the other hand, my friend thought it was a real person, and he's been in on the SW thing since the 70s. As Yoda might say, how embarrassing.

I think you missed the whole point. I was talking with another user about the use of older style comedy fitting more to an older style film. I mean in terms of using old 80's humor in a modern day setting. It would feel a little bit out of place in a 2019/2020 setting, though it would probably be fine coming from the original characters. Not so much for the newer characters.

All I'm saying is, 80's humor would more suit an 80's setting, though it can work in a modern setting providing it came from the original cast and nobody else.

I do however agree with everything else you stated. It really doesn't matter when it is set, providing that the comedy works (which it really didn't in 2016 Ghostbusters, it was a complete hit & miss). It definitely needs a good script for that, and some good actors to support and elevate it.

I don't know how the story will go, I just know what I have seen so far. There's a barn/farm, the old Ecto-1, and somebody working/fixing up the Ghostbusting equipment. I can safely say that based on that, the Ghostbusters have been out of business for at least a few years. It's a safe bet if even the equipment needs work done on it.

The next trailer should reveal more, giving us the next puzzle piece of the story/plot.
